Hi!

My ds applied to, and was fully qualified to attend USNA and USMA. Unfortunately, he did not receive an appointment to either. We had plan C fully in place and he has embraced that plan now. Well today, he received an email offering him a 3 year ROTC scholarship, based on being fully qualified to attend West Point. We are not even sure what to do with this info now that we have sucked it up and moved on lol! The offer will be rescinded on May 15 if not accepted. Any thoughts? I know most of the schools he would have been interested in the most are probably already full (Citadel for example)

Thanks for any insight!

I see from previous posts that your son wanted USNA pretty badly. Does he want to be an officer in the army?

If so, take it if you can find a school with an opening! Does plan C have ROTC? Does the email have instructions about where he can use the scholarship? If not, call or email somebody in Cadet Command and find out where you can use the scholarship. I bet you can find a school/battalion combo that you can get into if he wants it.

Thanks!! Yes, he wanted USNA very badly lol! This is all something we need to discuss. His plan C has a very small ROTC program. He has a full ride to that school, so would he be able to use both scholarships if he decided to go this route, I wonder?

The email states "We have 275 host ROTC programs, over 600 partners and affiliate schools to choose from."

Thanks Sledge!!

Candidate1997,
There was a thread on this issue last year "Offered Army ROTC Scholarship in Lieu of Appointment?"
Type in search box should take you there. It was under military academy forum. Appears WP shares list of qualified but not chosen candidates with cadet command. Either way congratulations, nice options for your son.

Congratulations. Go ahead and accept, there is NO downside. In the mean time try to find a school that he can use it at and that would fits his educational wants and needs. If at the end of the day you cannot find a school no big deal. Good luck
