Good morning y'all! I just received an email earlier this morning from USAFA admissions saying that my file has been sent to the "committee for evaluation and we are going through the selections process this week but its a process that can take a while." Does this mean that I will hear back from USAFA within the week if they decide to reject/appoint me? Thanks.

It can take awhile. So - maybe you will hear one way or the other this week. Maybe you won’t.

Congrats on getting in front of the board! It's been a long journey just to get this brief look at your last 17+ years of work. Expect the committee to look over your package for about 2 minutes this week. Possible outcomes could be Yes (APPOINT), No (TWE), and MAYBE (NWL).
For appointments, under best case scenario, all Service Academy Admissions teams tend to try to give nominating sources ~48 hours to personally notify an appointee of their selection. At the end of this courtesy window for personal notifications, the portal will update with the good news. Some MOC call, others do not and the portal is the first sign of change in status.
For negative news, the portal just updates - no waiting period needed.
For NWL, I am no longer clear on how this is worded in the portal and others can likely share their recent experience.

I thought being patient was hard the last couple weeks...
It certainly makes me nervous that all my accomplishments of the past 17 years are going to be analyzed in a grand total of 2ish minutes!!

I received an appointment but never got an email saying it was going to the committee.
Regardless, remain “Cool. Calm. Collected.” Remain alert as to the progress on the decision but don’t dwell on it. They could have a decision in a week, maybe two, maybe three. No way to know. It’s out of your control now so focus on what is within your control. People say “workout” or “read” but honestly just do what you enjoy. I’ve found that audiobooks are something that I enjoy to kill downtime.

Came completely out of the blue, and I completed my application in whole the first week in December. Got my nom later December.
Interesting, cause I got a call from what I assume was an admissions counselor letting me know Wednesday night that they were just starting to review applications. Also asked if I had any questions, which I thought was really awesome of them. No email though

Don't worry, I haven't been contacted either. Turned it in mid-december.
This is the first time that I've heard anything from USAFA
I haven't seen anything on my portal since 10 January.
Same here, haven't had any contact before that (besides generic portal messages)

Was the email from your team or someone else in Admissions. Just curious, what team color are you? I just asked my DD and she has not heard anything from them since December, and then they were replying to a question she asked.
Does anyone know if they just randomly assign candidates to admission teams? I know that is new this year.
On a funny note, I suggested she email and inquire about review times and she told me that I just need to be patient.

No, they don't. Candidates are normally assigned to one of two counselors that work their region of the country/globe. If you reside in area "XX" then you'll be assigned to one of the two counselors (based on your last name) for area "XX."
This year with all the issues...they put together two teams (Blue and Silver) and put everyone in one or the other. The counselors working there are spread evenly. It's working better with all the restrictions they've faced all year.
