I received an email from admissions regarding my SAT score which I know needs improvement, 580 math 630 verbal. Asking on my plans to improve my scores and make sure my package is ready to present to the board. Aside from the fact that my scores are low, is this a good or a bad thing, and do they email every applicant like this?

Don’t worry about that. Just act!

None of us have any way of knowing who has gotten what email.

Your takeaways:
- They have looked at your record in a preliminary way.
- You can deduce they like what they see enough to drop some fairly direct feedback on you about your SAT score. They have told you what to do to be more competitive.
- They have not made promises or guaranteed you anything.
- The ball is in your court. You have sole control of your strategic and tactical plan to improve your SATs.
- It’s only a bad thing if you do nothing.
- Think critically about how you spend your time. Will posting here directly improve your next SAT scores? Will time on social media? Will gaming time? If not, you know what to do - get after the various methods and resources to improve, and put in the sweat equity to make it happen.

And for anyone else out there reading this, do not wait for an email from admissions. If your test scores are not outstanding and your folder hasn't been put before the board yet then there's time to improve them. Get after it.

One thing I forgot to ask, does this mean my package hasn't been put before the board yet, likely due to my SAT scores? Even if it has gone before the board can I still update my scores? Thank you very much for the feedback above.

There is only one SAT date left this year. It is on December 6th. GO and register. You have 4 weeks to focus on improving your Math score.

Also you might consider doing the ACT one more test another opportunity to get a better math score on Dec. 13th but have to register by Nov 7th you might find more success doing the ACT....

Don't overthink it...if they called and suggested you beef up your SAT scores..do it.
They would not have made the call if they didn't think it might affect your chances of Admission.
