Hello everyone,

I was awarded the NROTC Scholarship, placed and accepted to ERAU DAYTONA BEACH. I understand that the NROTC Scholarship covers tuition, and not R&B, but I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship which is ~15k a year to ERAU, which says it covers tuition.

My admissions counselor is herself unaware of how the Presidential Scholarship will be utilized considering my tuition is covered entirely, so I was wondering if anyone else has had this similar issue.

Thank you!

Did you talk to financial aid?

Ask if the Presidential can be credited toward R/B.

It is important to note that according to the IRS, scholarships when used for tuition are not taxable, but ARE taxable if used for Room and Board.

Normally, if the scholarship is slated to tuition, you will lose it. This happened to my DS when he won an NROTC scholarship. It all depends on how the school treats it so you need to continue working the issue through the bursars office or financial aid. Of course YMMV.

AROTC is correct about monies used to cover room and board will be taxable income.

Did you find out if the ERAU merit scholarship can be used along with the AFROTC scholarship? My DS is in a similar situation at ERAU.

Interesting questions, please keep us advised.

This is the information I received from my Financial Aid Counselor yesterday. I hope this helps clear up any confusion, I did not originally have access to her email before I was emailed by her specifically.

This reduction of the President's Scholarship makes sense as the whole aid package cannot exceed the college's official cost of attendance.
