My son is still waiting to hear if he will be awarded a NROTC scholarship. His "Plan A" is the NROTC unit at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. (Also his father's alma mater.) We get the "Launch" publication from the school and I thought I would share a short article from the paper as I think it would be of interest to NROTC cadets and hopefuls who may not have seen it.

Also... as a side question... I am an Air Force Brat and an Army wife... I don't know the right words to use for the Navy sometimes...

I know the Air Force has squadrons and wings... the Army has battalions and Brigades... what are the equivalent terms for the Navy?

Fleet? Task force? Carrier battle/strike group?

Though there are many references out there, this is a 2016 one. Just scanning it gives you the idea of numbered Fleet, Force, Group, etc. Navy aviation is Wing and Squadron. You can also have a Destroyer or Submarine Squadron.

Generally speaking, there is an administrative organization and an operating organization, which is more fluid. That's down in the weeds you don't need to go right now.

USNA MIDN organizal structure is Brigade --> Regiments --> Battalions --> Companies --> Platoons --> Squads.

My DS NROTC unit's MIDN organizal structure is Battalion --> Companies --> Platoons --> Squads

My Son is also waiting to hear about NROTC scholarship. When did your son put in his application? When we visited the school in November we were told that they have already accepted 5 candidates and they take 25. We seemed to be a little late getting our application in.

Some of those candidates might have been college programmers too. I know that they only accept 25 total scholarships, however there is not a set limit to the amount of programmers accepted.

These numbers sound about right, according to DS at ERAU. When he applied last year, was told to submit early because unit fills up quickly. Overall, VERY pleased with the university and the NROTC unit. Top notch professors, officers and MIDN.
