Emotions of an applicant

The SA's are made up of hard workers and LEADERS essentially. The Ivy League and MIT and Stanford are made up of hard workers and SCHOLARS. Some are better leaders than scholars. Some are better scholars than leaders.

I'm not going to jump too far into this issue, but I'd suggest that you either clarify or take this post down. You may have not intended it, but you directly imply that those that the Naval academy are not scholars. This is both offensive and untrue.

Congrats, you're the 100 trillionth person who's tried to use big words to confuse the other person, without any success. What did you do, go to thesaurus.com? What I find funny is that you have no clue who I am, yet you're talking to me as if you were an elder speaking to their grandchild. May I ask where your 'experience' comes from? Have you attended both a Service Academy AND an Ivy League Institution? Have you even attended either?

My whole point was that there are many ways in which it is harder to get into the Ivy League/MIT..

THIS post actually made me mad. You've adopted an attitude of disdain toward someone who is both your superior and is held in much higher esteem than you.

Yes, you may be right, but at what cost? You have cast an unfavorable light on yourself. You've made your point, now step down.

You're about to be a plebe. The lowest of the low. Dirt. And you don't even know who this whistle pig guy is! Choose your words carefully; you might have just personally insulted one of your future superiors.

This is from candidate to another. I want the class of 2015 to respect and be respected. Help me with that.

A good number of Whistle Pig's posts are sarcastic in nature or made in jest. Which I think the use of smiling emoticons indicate. I'm no physician but I'd prescribe a chill-pill.

My apologies. I was not trying to say that those who attend the USNA are not scholars. They are. What I was trying to say that it's difficult to judge which school is harder to get into because their purposes are different. The SA's require more well rounded candidates-scholars, athletes, leaders etc. The Ivy League just wants scholars, and to the extreme.
I was just irritated by Whistle Pig's comment "Lemme put it more simply so Army can grasp it all ..." I thought he was implying that I was stupid. And I don't know much about the people on this forum, so I wouldn't know if he was being sarcastic or no. Again, my apologies. Wasn't trying to make 2015 look bad :frown:

And when I said 'if someone wants to go to a Service Academy, they will get their eventually', I meant it. If there are no serious barriers (ie med quals, law violations, age, etc etc) and an individual wants to attend an academy and be an officer in the military that badly, they will get there.

In the words of a famous WW II general ....

"Nuts!":screwy:

(Hope I didn't use any words that might confuse. :thumb:)

We shall see!
And I'm sorry for sounding like a little brat earlier. I posted that without even thinking it through.

Emotions are running very high for those still waiting to hear...one way or another...for those of you who have "numerous" appointments (by evidence of your signage) congratulations...please keep those of us still waiting to hear in your thoughts and be a tad more kind and thoughtful in your posts.

My admissions director told me that I wasn't holding up the appointment of another candidate. I forgot the reason why, I'll e-mail him about it later. Whether or not I accept doesn't matter for another candidate... But that's just what I was told. He said that if I did not accept my USNA appointment, he could try to get another candidate an appointment, but it was incredibly unlikely.
I'm visiting USNA on March 24th, so by then, I'll have made a decision. Hopefully my AD can get another candidate an appointment to USNA, even if it is unlikely.

Forgive me, but I am not overly concerned with the admissions banter because every school admission criteria is subjective and quite frankly used to promote exclusivity....accepted and you are in the club. Ultimately many deserving college applicants are "dinged" from their dream destination due to various perceived and real inequities. Bottom line, it is the institutions game and they make the rules. I am not an accomplished debate champion, but winning the "my rock is harder than your rock" argument is not easy!

I am very interested in amrystrong2015 USNA Admissions comment. I read, if appointment is declined, it most likely will not trigger appointment for next candidate in line. If true, this is not good for all of us still waiting. IMHO, our appointment possibility this late in the game is partially dependent on number appointments declined.

Amrystrong2015, good luck with your decision. You have the ultimate "win win" decision. Congratulations.

Grtkidmom, it is my understanding that USNA will appoint a certain number, something like 1500, with the understanding that several will decline, and they will end up with a class of around 1200-1250. This may be the reason Armystrong2015 was told that his acceptance or declination would not affect another applicant. I could be totally wrong, so feel free to correct.

And for those of you debating the ins and outs of Ivy League vs SA, has anyone mentioned this year's Rhodes Scholar from USNA? Talk about a Scholar! :thumb:

It was just an obsertvation made in jest but true that her parents could not believe the process for a SA including physical, mental, medical and nomination procedure (like applying three times for one school). I am sorry I started this.:argue1:

From what I understand, USNA and other SA's make more offers of appointment than the class size they desire because they expect, from their experience, a certain number of those offered appointments will not accept. In which case, we conclude they do not immediately mail out another offer of appointment every time they receive a "no thanks" from someone to whom an offer was extended.

However, if someone off your MOC's slate receives an offer and declines, I believe there is a strong chance that the SA will make an offer to someone else from that congressional district.

I apologize for ever making that remark. Of course the academies have excellent scholars. Not only are those scholars smart, but they're athletes, leaders, the "jacks of all trades". How many Ivy Leagers (no clue how to spell that :yllol:) can say they've got the whole nine yards :thumb:

And about me not holding up the Appointment of another applicant- I just sent my AD an e-mail asking for the specifics.
