This is an excerpt from an email I received from my FFR...

I apologize for the delayed response here. The following is what the Field Force Commander has said about your probability of acceptance:

" Looking at his file, he's competitive, but he is applying from a tough
district. He is not likely to win the vacancy or get in from the national
wait list. He will most likely have to reapply next year. He has good
scores, extracurriculars could have been better."

........

Sounds like that my quest to get into West Point fell short. I guess I will be taking my 4-year ROTC scholarship and heading to the University of Tampa. Thanks to all for the help throughout the process.

I am more or less in the same boat, it would seem. Would you care to post a brief synopsis of your application (CFA, ACT, class rank, highlights etc) just for the rest of us to get a feel of where we stand?

Best of luck, keep trying......

If you truly want USMA, reapply. On the flip side, you may get to a university and find that you love it.

The AROTC is a great path also. You're very lucky to have had the experience of both! Good luck

Okay, so today I received a Candidate Qualified Letter from WP saying I was placed on the national wait list. I am very confused because I feel like I am getting mixed signals. I had finally started to move on with my life and accept that I wasn't getting in but now it seems like there is a glimmer of hope. Someone be honest with me here, should I even bother anymore? Is it all just formalities at this point? Should I just focus on going the ROTC route next year?

It's not OVER till it's OVER. At least you have a plan B ready.
I'm curious too... What district you are in and your gpa/test scores?

@JLur I think the feedback from your RC is the most telling, He says you are "not likely" to gain an appointment this year. That is his input from his knowing exactly where you sit on the slate and the NWL, his experience and knowledge of the process. Is there still a possibility that you could win the slate? Yes, until everyone accepts and the class is full, there is a small possibility. We went through this last year and I understand how disappointing rejection is, but I think it would be best to start focusing on plan B. Take a few days to grieve but keep your head up and keep doing the great things you have done all your life. If you made it this far, you have been pretty successful. The circumstances were a little different but the feedback my DD received last year was very similar. She was told that she wasn't going to be high enough to come of the NWL but if she had a successful semester of college, it was 90% that she would make it next year. She received her appointment in early February as a re-applicant.

The field force team does not know if you will get a spot, as a general rule. They may be good at speculation, but they are not part of the decision team.

If you have numbers which make you competitive in a very competitive district, I would think you would be very competitive on the NWL. What were your numbers? ACT/SAT scores? Class standing? Varsity sports? Leadership roles? CFA? Any other distinctive characteristics or accomplishments? These are the things which will determine your chances off the NWL.

He didn't say his RC told him not likely. It was the field force commander. I think that makes big difference. If it was the RC, probably game over.

....My guess is that the OP asked his FFR for an assessment, and the FFR asked his FF commander from his state to look at the kids resume and make an assessment. That assessment was passed back to the OP. But, if it is a competitive district, and the OP was in the mix there, he may not be in bad shape for the NWL.

Competive district shouldn't effect you on NWL.
