Does anyone know on the administrative side of things, if the Navy would release me to go attend USMA?

I can't find any guidance in any Navy or Army instructions

Here is the AR (Army Regulation) governing Army enlisted who wish to attend any service academy.

Navy regulation about what happens if you leave a service academy for any reason other than medical or commissioning.

Since there is a Navy regulation about enlisted who separate from ANY service academy when they still have a service obligation I assume there is a regulation somewhere about being able to attend any service academy.

There is a RC at West Point who processes only prior enlisted applicants. I would call that RC (can get name from USMA admissions web site), and ask your questions; or email.

I got the RC's number. It's difficult for me to call her, my ship has been underway frequently.
I have to talk to the fellow sailors in my admin shop reguarding the Navy letting me go. I know it's all solid from the Army side.

You can also contact the Navy Liason Officer at USMA - MAJ Cameron - he may be able to assist you as well. You can find his contact info on the USMA website under DMI - Military Training Directory.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

I just talked with a Major in admissions, there shouldn't be any problem or hiccup with my package, even if I am from a different branch. However, it is unfortunate that I do not get one of the 'free' solider's slots because of the different branch.

I'm not sure what the rules are for seeking appointments in your situation, but you may want to explore them if your duty station is different from your HOR. Some may be less competitive than others.
As an example, we were based at Ft Campbell when our DD first applied. While our post was in KY, she went to school in TN and was able to establish Tn "residency" with her Tn drivers license. So really she had three choices- TX, TN and KY. She went with TN.

This is an old thread that is now at the top....but I will answer in case someone looks up this post.

If you are Navy and want to go into a different branch you must ask the Navy (mainly your community manager at Bupers) for a Conditional Realease. It is in the MILPERSMAN. Talk to the Career Counselor at your command.
