Hello, guys. My situation is a bit complex so please allow me to explain.

I want to serve in the Army as an officer, preferably infantry or armor. I'm finally getting my green card somewhere early 2020 which will enable me to enlist, and I'm just trying plan ahead.

I need to be a US citizen to be commissioned but it takes over 5 years for me to naturalize after I receive GC if I just sit around and wait, so I'll need to enlist in the Army to speed things up a bit. I want to go active duty since that's where the jobs I want are at, AD has commissioning programs(GtG) that I'm already familiar with, but I feel like once I go active I lose control and chances are I might end up doing the entire contract, so I'm going with reserve as it seems to give me a bit more control over myself.

From reserve, direct commissioning does not apply to me so no, I really really really want to go to USMA but I'm just a bit too old and will age out by about six months so West Point is a no go. I'm trying to avoid OCS because I don't want to risk ending up in a class with no infantry or armor slot. So I'm going with ROTC. The problem is how does it work for reserve enlisted?
  1. Do I just go to college and enroll in ROTC, or is there a similar program like GtG for reserve?
  2. I understand if I go GtG as AD, I PCS to the school and be a student there full time. Is it the same for reserve? Do I PCS to the school and go there full-time or do they just make me non-deployable and let me keep drilling with my unit till I get commissioned?
  3. I had to drop out of college earlier and am planning on returning next year. By the time I return, I would have a little over 60 credits under my belt but I took a lot of useless classes so I'll still need at least two years to graduate. Would this DQ me from ROTC?
  4. Military naturalization takes about a year at this moment so I won't be a US citizen at the time I go back to college. Would this DQ me from ROTC?
Again, thanks for taking the time to read this. I've worked so hard for so many years for this, I just don't want to mess it up at the last second. Any advice would be appreciated.
