Enlisted to USMA

Greetings,

First I need to clarify that I'm not in the military yet, and I'm planning to enlist first because I'm not a US citizen at this moment, so I have to enlist and be naturalized first.

I have been looking into the enlisted to USMA program for a while, but I still have a few questions.

1. I heard there are people that applied to USMA right after the Basic (During AIT). Is it realistic?

2. I'm currently a sophomore in college and is doing OK(3.5ish GPA), but I failed a course. (I'll be honest, I slept through the final.) Since prior services are not required to submit their college transcript, would you guys recommend me to submit it?

3. Say my company commander at AIT gives me a nomination and I finish and submits my application for WP before I graduate AIT, but does not get an appointment before I graduate AIT, would I need to ask my new company commander for an endorsement?

Thank you

You must be a US citizen before you're the age of 23. The big one is a failed class. The failed class will prevent you from getting into MAPS or WP

Thanks for the reply. I talked to the admission about college transcript and they said it is recommended but not a must for prior enlisted, so I still have option. Just don't know how much it's gonna hurt. For the age part, I'm fine. I'm 19 at this moment and is going to enlist next summer.

Scanty information...especially if you're going to be prior enlisted. ONE failed class is not closing doors here. There are certainly kids at West Point who have done far worse things prior to attending than fail one class.

An additional question. Does WP allow the display of religious items in dorms(like small amulets)?

You age does matter, if you're 19 and it takes several years to get your citizenship you could age out.

Sure there are kids who had character issues before R-Day. I believe as people gain more wisdom in life and mature, they become wise. Its called personal growth. However, academics is very difficult there at WP as you know. Trying to hide in the middle does guarantee success. If you have a good foundation in math, chem and physics you will have less tress in you day.

A small amulet may have to be approved by you TAC and room mates

Usually, people get naturalized at the end of BCT/OSUT so I guess it's not going to take me several years to get my citizenship. I'm more worried about the commander's endorsement. If my commander in future doesn't support me, I'll likely be aged out.

I'm at USMAPS currently, and I wouldn't let a failed class stop you from applying.

As far as your question goes - I think you earn your citizenship after AIT, so you'd probably have to wait until you got to your duty station to ask your company commander for a nomination. However, I don't think asking during AIT would hurt.

In my experience company commanders are very eager to write and submit nominations. Apply for congressional noms as well though.

There's almost no way to apply during basic, but AIT you might have your laptop or access to computers with internet connection.

If you need any help at all just message me. I don't use this very often anymore, but I'll check up in the next few days.

Good luck!

You should be fine with a religious amulet in your room. You may need to move it a few times a year for sami inspections, but no one will care.

Source, am cadet.
