Enlisting and ROTC -

My son tells me that they saw a similar number of departures from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets this year (they started with around 435 and lost 125). I can't say for certain, but I suspect those attrition numbers are fairly common in the SMC programs.
Wow, that sounds like a lot! I know my sophomore son's company and band company didn't lose any.

Definitely let me know if he has questions! This year is actually different, we're told that Recognition is, as a motivation of sorts. December 3, 2022.

If it's not moved up of course, we've had more than 100 Rooks drop out, so if it get's moved up to this month, I am not sure
I heard all sorts of rumors in the fall semester about how many dropped, but I was told the final official number of drops (either left school or switched to civilian) was closer to 75.

Maybe so, I don't even know if that's true... It sure has felt as id there were many more than that

Crazy that since my first time on this website almost 2 years ago, and even more crazy in 20 days, I'll be done with my first year at Norwich. Crazy it's been 8 months since I first becoming a Rook, then Recognition, and it even came full circle just two days ago at NU101, when that was officially 1 year since I first stepped on the campus, and even remotely considered coming to an institution with such history.

Reflecting, on my first year, as it comes to a close, I must say, it wasn't the best, I feel I didn't take full advantage of the experiences I was handed, I didn't take advantage of everything that came my way, when I most certainly probably should have. I had some less than desirable experiences with some individuals, but I guess it's all apart of the process.

I find myself enlisting, into the USMC Reserves, and I will be shipping off within the next 2 months, that's a whole separate challenge in of itself.

I am on track to contract with PLC in the 2nd Semester of my Sophomore Year.

To the alumni who helped me through this year, I am forever grateful for.

Cheers to the next 3 years I'd say

Norwich Forever

Good luck to you!!

Absolutely.

In this past year, I have clearly refined what I want to do, and I feel I have matured and developed properly through the Corps of Cadets, to make that decision, knowing it is what is the best for me.

Are you missing the fall semester at Norwich or trying to complete your initial Marine training this summer before the fall semester?

Still debating, ideally, I want to come back for the Fall Semester, so I can go out for Semper Fidelis Society, something I disappointed myself and failed out of this past year.

If I come back for the Fall Semester, I would be put into the 92 Day Reserves so I can split Bootcamp, and my MOS school

What are your chances getting picked up by the NROTC Battalion to contract as a MO midshipman? That way your classes aren't interrupted with AD traning and graduate wiith your Rook class.
Either way good luck.

I am only currently planning to pursue PLC, as I've talked to upperclassmen who say it is much easier to pick up a contract. I am not really worried about getting school paid for, something that an ROTC Scholarship would obviously allow.

In terms of graduating with my Rook Class, it would be possible, although I would severely have to max. out on the amount of credits allowed per semester, which part of me, isn't willing to risk that, as just the sound of it, would be challenging, and I don't want to lower my GPA by any means.

I've been talked to, about the options for taking some Summer Classes to help me with catching up to graduate on time as well.

Overall, there are multiple options

One continuous ongoing circle for several years.

So many plans some crazy some not. But after all of this going around and around they finally settle on Norwich. And after one academic year they are already off to something else. And it is something else it’s not a continuing of school. It’s “at best” a detour.

Now it’s USMC boot camp and the enlisted reserves route. Something every single poster advised against. :)

I have no idea what the next plan will be but I know one is coming.

I am definitely continuing school. I've discussed with more than enough upperclassmen before deciding.

So..I get drilling with the NH unit every month while in school but what about the summer months? Would you fly from Indiana every month and would your 2 weeks AT interfere with your schooling at NU? We looked at that route and the logistics of it made my head hurt. I could see it making sense if we were NE residents but my DD's home is 9 hours from Norwich. Maybe I'm answering this question myself by saying the only way it makes $ sense is to stay in the region with a cadet buddy for the summers. The first 2 summers are probably covered by bootcamp, MCT and MOS training, Maybe the last 2 PLC? Is that the plan?
