Enquiring minds want to know.

Yeah, wisdom teeth can be a disruption if there are complications.
I had mine pulled at the academy. No complications, but having teeth pulled is never exactly fun! The base hospital did a good job though...and dang those pain meds did a number!

I know many parents will resist the idea of having the wisdom teeth removed if they feel that there isn't a compelling reason. That's their choice, but remember it is a decision that will have consequences. We had our son's wisdom teeth removed as soon as he got his appointment because that is what the instructions suggested to do.

One of our son's friends at UPT didn't have his removed. He graduated the Academy and when he was ready to begin UPT it was noted that he still had his wisdom teeth. Long story short, he was required to get them out and couldn't start UPT. After the surgery there is a 6 month waiting period to get cleared to begin UPT. Once he was cleared, they started to find a slot to fit him into another class. He finally began UPT 11 months after his roommates. Now keep in mind that your 10 year commitment doesn't start until you get your wings, so he is almost a year behind everyone else, even though he has served the same amount of time on active duty.

Stealth,

Not only is he a yr behind his class mates, but also add in if he was on casual status too, assuming 6 months casual status, later on from a career perspective. IOTW he started UPT as almost an O2, with nothing really on his OPR, but meanwhile, his peers that started at the same time, most likely did something like AFIT. Add 1 yr for UPT, 6-9 mos for FTU, and he is showing up to his 1st operational assignment as an O3, with only student on all of his OER/OPRs. His peers now have been there for 1 yr, most likely going up for IP. Has held squadron jobs and is known on the base.

Now if he wants to go TPS, or WIC he submits his packet and competes for command support. Wing King has a choice...which one do we give the shot to?
Officer A ---delayed 18 months just finished IP program
Officer B --- Stealth's DS that is an IP with many more flight hours
Officer C --- delayed 18 mos for AFIT, just finished IP program with Cadet A.

I would think it would be a toss up between B and C, and more likely to go to B because they would probably be up for a PCS, and many times that is when they are selected. C would than have a chance for the next selection because like A they are not rotating yet. However, again, A is going up against C and maybe another new B.

Part of military success is timing.

Always think about how your action or lack of action can impact what may happen later on. It is like the cadets at the AFA or AFROTC now, they are living for today, but working for their next goal at all times. It will be the same later on regarding your career.

Our DS did not have his wisdom teeth pulled, and at one time it was a question if he should have them done, it was only going to be 1. It turned out they all came in fine, but we kept an eye on it, with his 6 month check ups. Had he gotten to a point where the game clock was down to the final minutes, we would have done it in a heart beat.

OBTW, it might be just my area, but our dentists now look at pulling them when they can see them in the xrays, unlike back in our days where it was they were already impacted. Most kids here if they have to have them pulled, get them out @16.

Wisdom Teeth

Hello. We had this question last year after DS received his appointment. From our memory, his dentist said his teeth have erupted with no complications, but you can't count on our memory:rolleyes: If we were to look into having them checked, would we do this on our own? We are retired AF and have the Delta Dental coverage.

My husband was told his entire 20+ year flying career at every birthday dental check that his wisdom teeth must come out. They are still there. Pima, it sounds as if your DS still has his wisdom teeth. So it's not a deal breaker (or deal delay-er) if the wisdom teeth are fully in with no complications?

Search Engine is my Friend!

I just pulled a search and found multiple answers from other posters. D'oh. Thanks all.

This question has been bugging the back of my mind for a while now, and I thought I would search the appropriate thread to ask in.

What do the cadets wear to sleep? Are they issued sleepwear, or are their pajamas required to be certain colors? I figure somebody on this board ought to know :D

Also, as I wear glasses (purple and blue framed glasses), would I have to get new glasses that are certain colors?

Thanks  I'm just a bit curious.

Cadets are issued a pair of pajamas, and you cannot bring your own until you earn the right to wear civilian clothes. Cadets are free to wear or not wear whatever is issued when their doors are closed at night.

You will be given a pair of BCGs (ugly glasses) during Basic. During the Academic year, you can wear your own glasses. I beleive that your glasses have to be conservative in nature when wearing them in uniform.

BIRTH CONTROL GLASSES! Thank god I have good eyesight.

$10 to the first person to get laid wearing these. -$5 if said person is a hipster.

And as far as PJ's go... dont sleep dressed like a pararescueman... and DONT wear gear from another SA.
