Hey, all. Was wondering if the SAT/ACT with essay portion was required for the class of 2026, even though CollegeBoard has decided to remove it? I can't find much information about whether it's required or not. Thanks!

If they remove the essay portion USMA will most likely drop the essay requirement OR require more essay supplements. Since USMA did not go test-optional for admissions this year, I am speculative to whether they will completely nullify the SAT with Essay portion.

It still shows up on the home page telling applicants to take it. I could be wrong, but I think taking it before it goes away would be advisable as putting your best foot forward. You still have 3 months until it goes away.

ACT has not yet discontinued theirs so they may require that test instead. If you do well on the upcoming (or past) SAT, I'd hate to take the chance of nullifying those results because you didn't take it while it was still available.

If it is no longer possible to take an SAT with essay then I highly doubt USMA will require it -- I wouldn't worry about it. Best of luck with the application.
^^^^ This. I highly doubt they would require the ACT instead, since many schools offer one or the other and not both. It's far easier for them to add an additional essay if needed.

For the Class of 2026 the Essay or Writing portion is still required. Try to take the SAT at a location that offers it before they stop offering it. ACT has no plans to discontinue theirs, so WP expects you to take that one if you cannot take the SAT one. You should be taking both tests 2 times anyway - your competition does, because some do better on one style versus the other. Try to take each this spring and then take them again before the summer is out. Although you only need one Essay/Writing portion on one of those occaisions. WP figures that the more resourceful candidates find ways and places to complete required testing.

Be careful with assuming anything. Remember what the academies did before there was standardized testing. Long ago you went a took a service academy aptitude test much more rigorous that todays SAT/ACTs. I have confirmation from 2 separate RCs, that at this time Admissions does not plan to give anyone a pass on Essay/Writing portions of tests. If the Essay portion no longer available on your planned SAT, then register for the ACT with Writing portion somewhere else - even if you have to travel somewhere. You competition is doing that. Still under discussion is an option where the candidate submits a timed writing sample proctored by a high school english teacher and either a counselor or principal. I recommend you do not wait for that option. Register for the ACT with Writing and don't have an excuse.
