It’s official: All sailors will have their own Navy-issue physical training uniform.

Sources tell Navy Times that Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen could approve a new exercise ensemble as early as June 1. Final details such as fabric, funding and fielding are being finalized at the highest levels of Navy leadership....

...The Navy is the only military service without official servicewide workout gear....

This reminds me of a story I was told by a friend of mine who was the Resident Officer in Charge of Construction during the Haiti Operations during the early '90s. One morning, during PT, he was approached by an Army General who asked him why he wasn't wearing his PT uniform. His response "I am wearing my PT uniform, sir."

Welcome, Great American - glad to have you here to keep us informed!
Does this mean that sailors will start doing PT? :yllol: :shake:

Interesting how the article mentioned that they might model the new PT unifom after the tried and true "blue rims and shorts" that we wear at USNA along with our blue and gold jogging suits and sweats.

For those who don't know this is what the article mentioned.

CNO rejects first PT uniform, delays adoption

http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/05/navy_ptuniform_070514w/

The Navy’s top admiral has rejected the first try at a service-wide physical training uniform, meaning the adoption of a universal PT uniform will be delayed for at least a few more months, Navy sources say.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen says he wants to get a physical training uniform in sailors’ sea bags quickly, but not at the cost of quality....

I guess we have nothing better to worry about....

Those Blue and Golds are cool. Wish they'd had them in my day.

As for Navy sweats, have they figured a way to get them from shrinking 6 or 7 sizes?

I really hope the CNO cans this idea permanently. I know it makes us look like a bunch of ragamuffins, but I really enjoy having one less uniform to worry about. It's not like the navy doesn't have enough uniforms as it is. And of course officers will be required to pay for this ourselves. I love how that $400 uniform allowance covers all our uniforms

It really is nice to not have to worry about having the right uniform when the time comes for PT, just one less thing to stress about.

Exclusive first look at new PT uniform

It’s blue and gold for the Navy’s proposed new PT uniform.

Navy Times got a first glimpse at the new fitness duds during a presentation at the Navy Counselor’s Annual Symposium in Dallas on Thursday morning....

A group of master chiefs this week tested a prototype physical training uniform featuring a gold T-shirt emblazoned with the word NAVY on the back in reflective letters and a Navy seal on the front. Blue shorts with gray reflective safety and the Navy logo completed the look.

Navy Navy senior enlisted leaders attending the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy's leadership mess wear-test proposed PT uniforms during a morning workout at Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas. The uniform was met by applause, but fleet leaders were warned not to expect the uniform in any sea bag tomorrow, as testing and evaluation still continue.

Goats doing PT! What a novel sight. The only PT goats ever got in my day was the 12oz curl! Sharp workout duds though. Like the shorts with the white chevron rather than the AF blue. PS, swabs pay for their seabads too! Anyone remember when ADM Zumwalt changed enlisted from bibs and buttons to CPO dress blues! That cost us a fortune for the switch.

It cost another fortune when SECNAV John Lehman switched back to the cracker jacks. He also brought back the leather flight jackets, which was cool. Too bad he didn't bring back the Service Dress Khakis during his tenure.
