Everything is complete and approved except for the nomination. Is this the end?

Thank you for the information and support. My candidate ended up getting a NOM after all. (The same nomination source that sent the initial denial notice). I appreciate your time
Fantastic news. Congrats!! And it looks like an appointment as well? Not sure which SA, but welcome to the military!

Head over to the appointment lists and add him in. And buckle up for the roller coaster that this journey is!

How do you get a nomination this late in the process? My DD is still a bit disappointed that she did not get one for USAFA. She has a top leadership position in a large AFJROTC program and was her school's J100 scholarship nominee. She forgot to complete the "recruit me" track form for USAFA before the nomination deadline of 1/31. Said there's no point in doing it now. She did complete them for USNA and USMMA and received noms for both.

There most certainly is a point in doing it now!! Sports have ‘blue chips’ for kids they want, who fail to secure their own nom. Additionally there are noms the SA holds and use. At their discretion. Including the VP nom. Hopefully she also applied for that.

It’s not over until the SA ends it for you. And yes, she should most definitely fill out the recruiting questionaire. You never know unless you try (assuming she is at least competitive in her sport).

Her application also is what’s used to decide prep offers. It’s not over until it is. As always suggested, work alternate plans.

Adding: these discretionary noms are a long shot. Not trying to lend a sense of high hopes. But, there still is a chance of obtaining one.

No AFJROTC nom to USAFA? I'm surprised that she did not get one.

The unit didn't have honor status this year due to an administrative error from the prior year. So, they weren't able to nominate anyone. :-(

I appreciate the support and this forum helps a lot. The encouragement and positive energy is so helpful. I wish everyone positive news!

I’m pretty positive that if the SA branch and JROTC branch are same service, you do not require honor status to nominate. Only honor status is required to nominate to other SA branches. Can someone correct me if I’m wrong?

@mj23 - Here is what is listed on the nomination form. Only needs to be an Honor school if not an AFJROTC unit.

The very senior person in charge was pretty upset last summer when he informed the student leaders of this year’s status and inability to nom. Lots of exceptional students. The information I've also seen on this forum and AF academy admissions website matches what the Major had told the unit. That an Honor unit with Distinction can nominate up to 5 students to an SA.

@mj23 _ What service is JROTC associated with?
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a high school class that is dedicated to building leaders, following a military style format. Different services are hosted at each school ie: Air Force JROTC (AFJROTC), Army JROTC (AJROTC), Navy JROTC (NJROTC), etc etc.

JROTC by itself does not indicate any service branch, and is an overall term.

In the case of this forum, if a JROTC service branch is the same as the SA service branch, it does not need an honor status.

AJROTC — USMA
AFJROTC — USAFA
NJROTC — USNA

Honor status in a JROTC unit is usually determined by a evaluation from someone in charge of all the JROTC’s in the state/county/city. You get a grade, and if you pass, you get honor status. This is just a generalization. You will need honor status to nominate from your JROTC unit to other SA branches.

I was able to apply and receive nominations from both USMA and USAFA as a AFJROTC unit. Without the honor status in my unit, I would not be able to apply to USMA for a JROTC nomination.

One other tiny piece of this (that came into play with a student, and USNA trying to find a nom for them): the student receiving an honor unit nom must be a member of their unit for over a school year. IOW, someone cannot join JROTC senior year, and be eligible for the honor nom (not sure if the year plus requirement exists for in branch, non-honor unit noms).

We're new the process and I wish that I have an answer. At first NOM in limbo, Then a Nom was appointed. Then the initial NOM came through after all. I hope that your child gets an appointment soon!

Any updates/news from the Diving coach?
We do not have a FFR we are only instructed to go through the coach at this point, We chat with him once a week. No indication that he can say my son is in or out- He is helping with plan B like a going to a JUco - such a different entity to go through sports. We don't have the typical on campus "admissions person" yet! working diligently to get answers.

Well, I don't know but we'll ask the liaison officer the specifics about it. At this point, it will be for clarification. DD received an appointment to USMMA that she is thrilled about and is waiting on USNA. She's accepted that USAFA is out of the picture and is focusing on the pursuit of Naval Aviation. :)

I hope that you will get more help and answers soon. Keep the faith.
