Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a high school class that is dedicated to building leaders, following a military style format. Different services are hosted at each school ie: Air Force JROTC (AFJROTC), Army JROTC (AJROTC), Navy JROTC (NJROTC), etc etc.
JROTC by itself does not indicate any service branch, and is an overall term.
In the case of this forum, if a JROTC service branch is the same as the SA service branch, it does not need an honor status.
AJROTC — USMA
AFJROTC — USAFA
NJROTC — USNA
Honor status in a JROTC unit is usually determined by a evaluation from someone in charge of all the JROTC’s in the state/county/city. You get a grade, and if you pass, you get honor status. This is just a generalization. You will need honor status to nominate from your JROTC unit to other SA branches.
I was able to apply and receive nominations from both USMA and USAFA as a AFJROTC unit. Without the honor status in my unit, I would not be able to apply to USMA for a JROTC nomination.
