Exciting Weekend!

I don't have all the official information yet but will send it to those who requested it when I get it.

I don't think aviation goes that low, sorry...have always heard it went out much, much higher...but at any rate, shhhhh....son has been working his arse off for a good rank as he thought he needed to be highly ranked to get it...would hate for him to start slacking now! :thumb:

Aviation went out at 850.

It all depends on the class year. If I recall correctly, it went out very high for the 05 class.

If I was to GUESS at the mentality of cadets, I would say that the backlog at Rucker combined with the announced drawdown plans in Afghanistan are dissuading some from Aviation. The young LTs alway want to get in on the action ASAP.

It's official - Infantry for my son!!!! :yay:

Congratulations to your Firstie!!! :thumb:

I bet it seems like just a blink ago that he was a Plebe complaining about Military Movement and calling minutes!

That is a fantastic question. I always forget they can do that now. That totally changes the numbers.
Not to convolute things too much but what is the standard aviation commitment? Assuming that it is greater than the normal five years, can ADSO and the aviation commitment be served concurrently?

The aviation commitment is 6 years following the completion of IERW. They've moved the date around a bit because of the way they've evolved the training timeline, but generally it's when you finish the nights portion of flying, or night gunnery if you fly a gun bird. That used to amount to about 14-18 months of training, depending on airframe. Now with the backlog at Rucker, 2 years is a good rule of thumb. So an aviator is looking at about 8 years of active service.

No, the ADSO and aviation commitment cannot be served concurrently. If they could, everyone would ADSO because it wouldn't add any time to your commitment.

Thanks - he was very happy last night.

My friends in the parents club warned me how fast it would go and they were right. Each year has gone by faster than the last.

I think my DD was the last one to get Medical Service without ADSO--only 20 slots this year. She was so happy! Her friend who is in the comma group got Finance--it was bizarre that it went out so far down, but it worked out great for her!

I was surprised too. Most people got their top choice this year (more than usual at least) and most branches didn't close out until the 900's - 1000's out of 1070 (with ADSO). The only exceptions being Medical Corps and Military Intelligence.

ADSO stands for Active Duty Service Obligation. If a cadet's rank isn't high enough to get a slot in his/her preferred branch, ADSO essentially gives them the option to say, "I'll serve 3 extra years of active duty service if I get _________ branch."
