Expeditionary, Survival and Evasion Training (ESET)

I went back went it was still SERE school. It was pretty intense. But an experience I will never forget and I still find useful today! They had stopped it completely for a time, glad they have re-instituted at least some form of the program.

Bailey, I will relay to you the best advice someone gave me about the bunny. Let your cadre know you are not squeamish and have no problems killing the rabbit. You could even act a bit eager to do it. You can talk about what great stew it will make, etc. Chances are, they will find someone else to do the deed. It worked for me.

My husband also went through when they still had SERE. The best stories that he and his friends tell come from that experience.
One of DH's friends said that the Escape portion was the worst 48 hours of his life because he kept getting put "into the hole" - he was shorter than most of the other guys . That's when another friend mentioned that it was only 24 hours. The look on his face told us everything. Haha!

But don't worry - the escape portion isn't done during ESET. ;)

Should be an interesting time! I'm an ROTC cadet leaving for session one in a few days. Does anyone have any other info on it, like approximate breakdown of training? Do we spend every night in the wilderness?

Can't wait to go!

One of my boys was was sent to Sailor Park in mid May, when there was still snow on the ground. They had a canteen and only one MRE. He lost 18 pounds; they no longer send them up in the snow.

Killing bunnies no big deal for him. Some city kids quite squeamish about that though
