What kind of expenses can a new applicant expect throughout the application process and after being potentially accepted? I know of some of them like the $12 fee for sending SAT and ACT scores, but about how much did the whole process for accepted cadet candidates cost? I have a minimum wage job but I know that some things on the CBT packing list can be expensive and I would just like to know if I could even afford it. Thank you

Hi, I don’t have info for you, but there is a current thread called “Q&A” here on the USMA forum, where a student is answering questions. They would be a good resource for you!!

You should apply and complete the process without worrying about the expense. If you find yourself in financial difficulty during the process let your RC or FFR know. There are financial resources available through parent's clubs, Association of Old Grads and other sources that will get you to USMA with what you need and in some cases, based on need, available funds, etc., may help a parent/loved one attend A-day or some other events. There is enough to worry about during the process. Don't let money stop you.

There is $2000 to be deposited to candidate cadet account but they can be taken out from your stipend ($200/month for plebe year) monthly like $100 until it is paid off. Cadets even get reimbursed for flight ticket and lodging when they report for R day. You just need to come with your boot and low quarter shoes, they will provide every thing else. Just like the previous poster said don't let the money stop you. And Good luck applying!

So implied in the above statement is that you will need to come up with the up-front money for that knowing you will get it back at some point. If that's a difficulty I'm confident some other arrangements can be made.

Posters above have mentioned boots, low quarter shoes, initial transportation to USMA, and the initial $2,000 deposit. Ignore it all. If USMA wants and admits you, there will be no financial barrier to you entering the academy. Arrangements will be made and the academy will get you there for R-Day. Take it from someone who has been associated with WP for over 30 years and has seen it all. There are more cadets that have no financial support from home than most people realize.

You’ve got hutzpah, and I like that about you.

We chose to booked ourself so we can be with DS on R day. But you definitely can arrange directly with WP travel agency, they can take care of everything without you paying anything up front.
