Son went to eye exam. He has always had 20/20 vision. Went to DODMERB today and he tested 20/25. The DODMERB doctor said it is easily correctable to 20/20. So obviously if he would have known this before he could have gotten glasses before DODMERB and passed, but now a little confused on the mechanics. He has an appointment for an eye exam to get glasses today. Will he be DQ and then need a waiver (but once he has corrected 20/20 what are they waiving or is there a mechanism to show he can get the corrected vision.

No DQ for visual acuity as he corrects to 20/20.

There’s this other standard called refraction. If he’s 20/25 uncorrected, then it is highly likely he meets the refraction standard. You’ll get a good idea of his refraction if he gets glasses and you read the prescription. With uncorrected of 20/25, he may not need glasses.

"Correctable to 20/20" is the key phrase. No waiver will be required.

My DS is still waiting for the registration email from DODMERB. He had an eye exam in May, and his vision was s20/20 in his left eye and 20/40 in his right eye. The doctor said at the time that he didn't need glasses for the time being. I'd like to ask people with similar experiences, will be disqualified in this situation? Or will he need to get glasses immediately? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Some days you have crappy vision after a bad round of sleep or illness. Can be your kid doesn't like vision tests at 7 am also. I got popped more than once for less than 20/20 as a young guy and it was usually my bad rest that caused it.
