Just an FYI,

Over on facebook, there is a growing problem with people being contacted by unknown individuals. Some of these contacts are openly from the middle east, others obvious fake names or bios. These contacts are also attempting to join any groups associated with the military. These groups include parent support groups, prayer groups, mothers groups etc.. Some groups are getting flooded with requests and some people are also getting multiple requests. Please remind your family members to upgrade their social media security settings as well as upgrade the security settings on any group. They are getting the names of individuals to contact from group member listings. Only the secrete group setting protects the names of individuals who belong and hides the group.

And buy a gun.

Interestingly enough, I did recently receive a message (chat) on Facebook from someone I didn't know, who was listed from... Syria maybe? The person said "hi". I said hi and then looked at the profile. No friend request. No other message.

If on a mobile device, make sure to go into settings and turn off location services because that is an easy way to get very accurate location data without you even knowingly giving it out.

Who uses facebook anymore?:yllol: Just kidding.

But on a serious note I wonder if this is going to be part of more Op Sec briefings. We've all had the training but will they start including sections on this type of threat.

Social media type tools are very powerful tools and just like any powerful tool it can be abused and used for things outside of what it was intended for. That's why I'm not a huge fan of them and taught all my kids to be careful what you post. A little restraint goes a long way.:thumb:
