3Q letter. I copied and pasted. I have read some people never get the 3Q letter but get an appointment instead. Would be a good deal!

We have received all your application information and the Admissions Committee has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2019.

You have demonstrated strong initiative and diligence in completing your file. Although qualified, you are still competing for admission and should continue to update your record with significant achievements in academic, leadership, and extracurricular and athletic activities. Do not forget to include standardized test scores or updated transcripts from your most recently completed academic semester. We will continue to add achievements to your file through the end of February 2019.

Although most offers of admission will be tendered before 1 May 2019, final selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters. Thank you for your continuing interest in West Point. Go Army!

That is a LOE.
How a 3Q looks like then?
NO.

THAT Is a 3Q letter.....

Does everyone get a 3 q letter? Or a LOA ? What if you are medically, academically and physically and have nomination but no 3 Q letter or no LOA, should this person be worried?

Based on anecdotes posted here, 3Q letters look like a less-than-uniform practice. As for LOA, they are rare. Some go out early, some midstream, some late. But precious few candidates get them.

My DS did not receive an LOA or a LOE when he was appointed 4 years ago. He received his appointment during the first big wave of appointments in January that year. At that time almost 500 appointments were mailed out all at once.

I assume to be in the 1st round next week you would need a 3Q letter
I heard about 3Q letter on this forum. But could not find any sample how it looks... If anyone can share one would be great.
Is the following a 3Q letter? It does talk about being Academically, Physically and Medically Qualified.

Yep- that's a 3Q Letter.
That is not the 3Q letter. That is an LOE (Letter of Encouragement). The 3Q letter states that you are officially qualified academically, physically and medically

Was he a principal nominee?

Was he a principal nominee?

My 2021 son was on a competitive slate without a LOA or LOE and was appointed in the first wave 2 years ago. He did have a 3Q letter. The lack of LOA, LOE or principal nom didn’t bother him. He also said when he reported, none of it mattered.

It is tough right now with the wait. I want to plan a vacation for my family with all 4 sons able to attend but it will need to be flexible as schedules change quickly in the military. It is rough with schedules all over the place but I would enjoy all of us together.

Enjoy the snow this weekend if you are in the path of the storm. ☃️[emoji300]️

Which letter is better to get, a 3 Q or LOA? What does the LOA look like?
DS received this. He has not received a 3Q Letter and still waiting to hear about MOC noms. He has only received an NJROTC nom. Portal still requesting transcripts when this semester is over.

No he wasn't, but he had 3 nominations (Presidential, Senator, Representative).

I would say the LOA carries more weight because it guarantees admission IF you are fully qualified (medically, academically and physically) and have a nomination, but the 3Q letter means you have met the standards of admission and just need to be chosen. In a perfect world, it is best to have both:)

Hoping everyone hears good news this coming week, let everyone know if you can if you are blessed enough to get a appointment next week to the very best West Point! Go Army!

Around what day this week do you guys think the first wave of appointments will be released?

My assumption is that it will be around 08:00 tomorrow. This is the same time that the SLE and C/O 2024 application portals open. Again, this is just my assumption. I’m not apart of the West Point admissions team, needless to say.

@Yankee23 Look at the Admissions post from last year...what day of the week was it that they advertised the first wave? Or the year prior to that? Those are your biggest clues.
Two years ago it was 17 January 2017.
