Falcon Foundation Appointments

I did Varsity Women’s basketball in 9th and 10th grade and then transferred schools where no organized sports were offered (but I took basketball classes, weightlifting, cardio, etc). My CFA scores were pretty average from what I know. Basketball throw was 42, 2 pull-ups, 9.8 shuttle run, 79 modified sit-ups, 43 push-ups, and a 7:12 mile time. Hope that helped!
Thank you! Congrats again! 😄

Outstanding!!! Definitely well deserved. His perseverance paid off and he's on his way. Still hoping we hear soon and he can't wait to wear his Hawaiian shirt on June 24th with his fellow prepsters.
Thanks @A-10 Mama ! Praying all the Falcons we are cheering for will fly to Doolie Hall in June!!

There was an earlier post that mentioned portals should be updated by 3 March to allow lead time for Senators and Representatives to notify candidates. I suspect all the Falcons are in the pipeline and the ones who haven't heard yet will know by Wednesday.

It showed up on my portal about a week after my transcripts were submitted. I’m guessing my dual enrollment classes played into it.
Probably, they must not weigh AP/honors classes though. My u/w GPA is 3.9 and that's how they put it into the portal. A straight 3.9. Despite taking nearly all my school's ap classes.

I had a couple honors classes, but I’m not sure if they weigh in. My transcript GPA was a 3.87 UW and 4.2 W

... A's in 3 years of high-level Russian (nearly fluent) ...

DS spent his year after high school in a foreign language program in Eastern Europe and is fluent in Russian. It's also offered as a minor at USAFA. There are opportunities at USAFA to study Russian abroad also (semester exchange?).

I would love to minor in Russian if I can. Love the opportunities USAFA gives to cadets!

I was a '19 grad of NWP, current 2x4 at USAFA if anyone wants any questions about the program answered.
Thank you for your generous offer. I am sure we will have some questions. I will reach out in the near future, once we have our heads around this offer.

How many of your NWP’ers from last year got appointments with you (falcon and / or self prep)? Congrats, in advance, on R-day.

Mine just told me he’s going crazy. Get plans b-e in place and it’ll be fine was my response. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. A great lesson for these future leaders.
Keeping your son, my son, and all of our Falcons (who are still waiting to hear) in my prayers that they may go through this time a bit more relaxed, and a bit more distracted from their portals. I pray that they seek time to enjoy the little things that they did before this whole process began. Today my DS took his little sister hiking for the day to enjoy trail running and relaxing in the waterfalls. Yes, in the cold waterfalls, but they have always enjoyed them after hours of trail running through the canyons. I hope he comes back more relaxed, and more at peace with what he cannot control right now.

Do all the kids get calls from their MOC before the portal is updated? We are also waiting with you @A-10 Mama. It is unnerving hearing about phone calls when we have not gotten one. Praying all of our Falcons get good news 🙏!!

Not all MOCs call their nominees about their impending appointment. Some do, some don’t. You win some, you lose some, some get rained out. So we wait until Wednesday morning. Keep busy and like I told our falcon, “Plan for the worst but hope for the best.”

Both our senator and congressman who nominated my DS said they would give a congratulatory call if he gets appointed but do the MOC's get notified from admissions. It's all a smoke and mirrors game to us....so I guess we wait patiently. So does that mean we should expect to get a call from the past commander and chief for his presidential nomination? 😝

🤪 Oops I meant to type Commander in Chief.

This is what I figured and confirming to hold onto hope until Wed if we don't get a call. Tabling and praying is how we are rolling except when I get onto the forums . What must be, must be. Happy Sunday!

Just for my own CYA (CMA?) The Wed., March 3rd date is based on a previous post in this thread or the NWP class of 2020 thread. Based on last year's appointment thread (USAFA Class of 2024 Appointments), starting around #75 on 11 Feb, a few Falcons reported, then the bulk reported a date of 15 Feb, so that Wed, 3 Mar portal update seems plausible. Figure if MOCs are notified a week early, it supports the date being good since reports started showing up here on Wed/Thurs.

Remember there's a reason it's called the Golden Ticket, all the Falcons are holding one. the more I've read about here on SAF, and from the FF calls where parents were invited, it's really up to the individual Falcon scholar to determine if they will be on the tour when the gate opens at the chocolate factory on 24 June. It's up to them keep up their studies, keep in shape and free from injuries and make good decisions. If they filter what they do through the lens of being a cadet, we will all be together on I-Day.

For the falcons and parents/cheerleaders on here, there's an old 1981 song from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers that says it best and we can all fully agree "... the waiting is the hardest part...".

Good news is we have a date to look toward where we can expect the wait to be over. It is possible one or more Falcons may wait past the date and may not hear until later, and I hope and pray that ALL Falcons are part of class of 2025 and you all get word soon.

Congratulations to the Falcons receiving their appointments and to the candidates receiving Falcon scholarships!

My USAFA cadet is an NWP grad. It was the best experience we could have asked for. Can't say enough good things about the Durbecks!

Oops I completely misread the title. I just got offered a scholarship today, not an appointment to the academy (for class of 2026). But, a huge congrats to those who did!
Congrats! May I ask if you've received any nominations from your congressman? My son received the Falcon scholarship as well but he did not receive any nominations. Thanks.

Congrats @pyk296 to your DS/DD !!

All 5(?) of the FFS prep schools are good, there are differences in their styles and approach. Highly recommend NWP!
Congrats to all Falcon recipients. May I ask why you recommend NWP over the other four schools? Also, what about the AF Prep school? Who is that for? Thank you.

There's a large number of FFS who attend NWP, typically around 40 or more. There are also many NWP Falcons on here.

DS attended NWP, so the recommendation comes from familiarity, not intended as a means of ranking the prep schools available to FFS selectees.

USAFA prep is geared more toward prior enlisted USAF and recruited athletes. It's located at USAFA and is a completely separate program. Typical numbers are around 250 a year, vs 60-100 Falcon scholars. Candidates are selected for one or the other by admissions. USAFA prep is not an option for FFS.

Both routes can be thought of as USAFA selecting candidates for next year's class. USAFA prep has a higher attrition rate vs Falcons, for any number of reasons. Approx 85-90% of USAFA prep receive an appointment and 95-99% percent of Falcons are appointed.
