Falcon Foundation Scholarship

No Portal update here. Was hoping for the FFS, but DS will self-prep anyway. Not giving up the dream. Congrats to all those who got great news!

So it seems they haven't started giving FFS to kids with TWE's???
Could this be the case? My DS had TWE on Apr 7. I have seen others report getting FFS mid-May. Perhaps these go in "waves" as well?!

Yes it s a successful route to the Academy, Falcons as a group have the highest completion/graduation rate of any subgroup as stated by the Falcon Foundation!
As others have stated, an Appointment after a successful prep year is your's to loose.
Continue to be smart about your behavior as it could affect chances of a nomination (yes you still have to go through all of that again, however MOCs are aware of the Falcon program so it does help your chances of Nom) as well as the offer of an Appointment.
No crazy grad parties and such...consider every activity and prank as possibly having an impact on your Nom/Appoinment this fall and next spring.
There are plenty of prep options: full military MMI,NMMI to the unique program at NWP. Choose the prep that will best prepare you for life at USAFA. If you have been in IB/AP/ or dual enrollment maybe a full immersion in the military and regimental programs offered by the military prep schools is maybe a better choice than one that has more of a traditional college atmosphere. Maybe you have only been at a small hometown school or homeschool then possibly exposure to the "big pond" aspect of a split program like NWP might allow you to experience what it is like with thousands of others all around you with distractions, and learning to find your place in a bigger setting.
Choose wisely and carefully, you want the Falcon year to prepare you to succeed at USAFA...not just what looks like a easy or fun way to kill time waiting on next year's appointment!
You will be on a coveted path to USAFA, however, stupid decisions and behavior will cancel your Golden Ticket, don't mess up this wonderful opportunity at a second and very successful shot at finally arriving On The Hill!!

Thank you for your post. Could you elaborate a little more? Are you saying there are too many chances to "drift" if he went to NWP? Are there significantly different success rates for each school? Thanks!

No I do not imply any negatives about NWP!! My comment was directed only to the INDIVIDUAL!
Each prep program is unique and obviously enjoys successful outcomes >Appointments to USAFA.
My comments were based on personal experiences and comments with the various Cadets we sponsor.
DEPENDING on the INDIVIDUAL one prep school might make a better choice in the long run to a successful Basic, Doolie and Cadet life. Some brainiacs don't do well in high stress or having to take orders, others need more success in academics to have a sporting chance at the rigors of Academy academics.
I was aiming my comments at the entire 4 (5 including prep) years that they are a Cadet..it does no good to gain an appointment and then wash out for something that could have been learned, corrected, or trained for!
Don't get so excited by the FF offer that you do not put every effort in determining the BEST prep school to attend for YOUR needs!!

I also received an AFROTC scholarship. Does anyone know if this can this be applied towards the Prep School?

The Insider posted previously that some candidates that received TWE's on April 7th would yet be awarded a FFS. It seems to me that they haven't gone back to those TWE's to select FFS for them. That's good news for many!

DD received Falcon Foundation Scholarship this AM. I found out first from email and it did say on it that she was offered the scholarship. I did not have to check portal. Finally the wait is over and very humbled for DD to receive this offer. I congratulate all who have received offers today and pray for those who are still waiting on an answer.

Being awarded a Falcon Foundation Scholarship is a huge honor, I didn't really realize that until I got to my prep school. Only about 60 Falcons total in my class and 29 went to NWP with me. It is as many have said "the golden ticket". Basically do your prep program and don't get into any legal trouble and your appointment is "virtually guaranteed". NWP was an amazing experience and I felt like this extra year will be crucial to my success at USAFA this fall.

Insider said:
The first batch included offers to 70+ candidates. Only 60 scholarships are available. We know from experience that a fairly high rate of offers will be declined, so additional offers MAY be made if we don't use the available scholarships from the first round of offers.

We were wondering about the other prep schools listed on the falcon sch. letter besides NW in CA? Don't really like the format of only attending one semester out there and going the other semester at a regular college-not a good fit for our son. Looking at the ones in New Mexico, Texas, and Alabama; maybe Virginia. Some of these also have High School Boarding Students; how do they separate the college kids/prep kids from that; ie. dorm life, mess hall, etc. These programs are all different; like texas; didn't seem to have the same military situation as others. Thanks so much for info and support!!!

My daughter, a high school junior, is just beginning the application process for the class of 2021. Curious as to the SAT scores of those being offered falcon scholarships. Thanks.
