My son received a Falcon Scholarship to attend a prep school this year with the opportunity to receive an appointment upon completion of the prep school program, passing the CFA, and receiving a new nomination. He is performing very well at the prep school, and excelling in all areas. Unfortunately, he received 3 nomination rejections this month. (2 from our Senators, and 1 from our Congressman) The papers we received at the beginning of this program stated he MUST receive a new nomination for an appointment. What are our options at this point? (I think the rejections were due to us moving, and we had to apply in a new state, but I'm not sure)

I believe, and I might be wrong, but if your DS is a sponsored by one of the academies (to NMMI, MMI, etc.) then they will qualify and receive an ROTC nomination provided the prep school had them fill out that paperwork.

No answers for you but as a parent of a current sponsored prep student I'm hoping you receive answers soon.

I would guess that there is a prep student coordinator at the school. Have your DS talk to them ASAP to start to figure out what options he has at this point. And have him do it now - before Christmas break. It will be a long break if he doesn't get some direction before he leaves.

I'm not sure that the requirement is to have a nomination, but that the applicant is required to apply to all possible sources for a nomination. Re-read the contract.... or have your kid ask at school. Of course I've been known to be wrong from time to time, just ask my wife.

There is a reason that Falcon Scholars are required to apply to all sources for a nomination (VP nom is still available). There are also Service Academy Superintendent nominations (https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL33213.pdf). Go back and re-read the Falcon Scholarship letter and know that USAFA and the Falcon Foundation have a vested interest in your son. It doesn't hurt for your son to reach out to his USAFA Counselor with concerns. That interaction may alleviate a lot of anxiety. Best of luck!
