Farewell Lt Col Dick Cole, Doolittle Raiders Crew CP, Crew #1

This morning the last surviving Doolittle Raider, Lt Col Dick Cole, "Slipped the Surly Bonds of Earth" to rejoin his fellow raiders. He was a spry 103 years young.

I had the great pleasure to meet him, and many other Raiders decades ago as a cadet. A fine gent. He will be missed.

Here's a picture of him toasting his fallen comrades on April 18, 2017.

I have a picture of the goblets, with his remaining upright, from our trip to the Air Force Museum last year. We are going again next week and will definitely honor him while we are there.
I tried to upload my picture, but the file is too large.
 
When we lose a member of our class or a graduate of USAFA, it's tradition that a graduate take glass in hand...charge it...and remember the individual...

And then we remember the third verse of the Air Force song...and it's beginning...

"Here's a toast, to the host..."

And we raise our glass high and say: "A toast!"

I raise my glass high for Lt Col Dick Cole, copilot of crew #1...

A toast!
