Favorite NROTC Schools?

Can someone tell me about George Washington University? Do they have a good NROTC program??
My DD is in her final year at one of the cross town schools and she speaks very highly of the experience. What is not to like about doing your PT at the base of the Lincoln Memorial steps and running on the National Mall? The proximity to everything that Washington DC has to offer is a big plus.

Full Room and Board:

UNION COLLEGE in upstate New York! Get the benefit of being a crosstown affiliate with one of the best units in the country, RPI.

One of the only smallest liberal arts school in the country to offer NROTC; 2,100 students in a 100% undegrad school. Classes can cap out at 12 students, very intimate classroom setting for Midshipmen to get a great education. Let me know if you have any questions, I can't say good enough things.

My DD is a 4C at GWU. Loves the Battalion and the Univ. It was a hard 4C year however because, being one of the top research hospitals in the US's Covid fight, they had a very restricted campus. That will be different next fall.

Its a good sized battalion, the 4C has about 40 Midshipman, unsure how that compares.

There are some differences at GWU; being just blocks from the White House they are unable to wear their NWU, except when off campus on training.

Thanks for the response. Question, does GWU do anything about room and board?

From the NROTC homepage

MIDN may apply for a $1K merit-based grant towards room and $1K towards dining expenses. STEM majors receive a discounted room and board rate. This benefit is not restricted to NROTC students, all GWU STEM-major students are eligible.

Keep in mind this is from the university, not the Navy, so any information about this needs to be verified with the university.

Miami University.

You’re smart enough to get the NROTC scholarship so you probably have crossed the magical 30 ACT threshold. That means you get a very hefty academic scholarship that CAN BE applied to room and board at Good Ole Miami U. So tuition, room and board are all paid for. Great!

College at a great school in an idyllic college campus setting. The look of this place HAS to seen. Parents dream of sending their kids to places that look like this. This is what you think college should look like. No towers. No massive dorms. No massive lecture halls Small student body of 15K. Full Professors are forced to teach classes - no TAs or GAs. Safe, small town setting in a state school.

But wait. There’s more.

What happens when your scholarship surpasses what you decided to spend on room and board?

PM me and I’ll tell you and every one of your midshipman’s dreams.

Seriously. PM me @teamluke

Go Redskins.
Agree. My DS attends Miami and it’s a great school.

I have a friend at Holy Cross NROTC and another attends WPI, but participates NROTC crosstown with Holy Cross and they both love it at their respective schools. Both schools cover R&B for all AD awardees with Army, Air Force and Navy.

University of San Diego if you get merit to cover room and board. With so much Navy stuff in San Diego, I’ve felt DS got to experience more. For example, going to Miramar to mix with active duty for various sessions etc. Down side-if you are Engineering, heavy course load because it is a dual degree program BA and BS. Lots of STA members also which is a good learning opportunity.

Thank you! I am doing my research before making a final decision....Very Grateful! I was looking at Tulane today. It seems like a great choice for sure.
Also Boston University, University of San Francisco, Norwich University offer full room and board.

What is YOUR favorite National NROTC Scholarship school that includes Room & Board? & WHY?
Don't forget to keep in mind your intended major! The Navy likes STEM majors, some of the schools mentioned are not high on the list of STEM Major schools. Research the schools, look at their "affiliates" and make sure either the host or affiliate has the major you want. Won't do you much good to get a "Full Ride" if NROTC is going require you to major in something the program you are looking at does not have. Can you mention your interests? Maybe that would help everyone here direct you?

Norwich was our son's Plan B. Their scholarship offer was huge. And they were the fastest in terms of communication and provided incredible access to professors and counselors for him to communicate with and ask questions. They are known as the birthplace of ROTC and have a very small yet beautiful campus.

My DS loves Boston College. The ROTC Boston Consortium seems very cool.
Hi there, DS is listing BC as a top choice for Fall 2022, NRTOC-MO scholarship app - hopefully he can get accepted there as well as earn the scholarship. We are going to tour BC later this month. One ROTC question we are wondering is how often do they have to travel off BC to go to BU or another Consortium location for required classes, drills, etc? In general, is the fact that a school is part of a consortium overly demanding when it comes to requirements off their own campus factoring in travel, time?

Any insight into BC NROTC-MO at BC is greatly appreciated. For example, ROTC building/classes proximity to dorms and campus setting in general. Are the ROTC students respected/appreciated at BC? Any other thoughts/comments or questions we should should ask on the tour are appreciated. Thank you!
