Favorite NROTC Schools?

What is YOUR favorite National NROTC Scholarship school that includes Room & Board? & WHY?

If we're talking full room and board it's easily Tulane (only ~5 schools offer the full amount anyways). If we're talking partial room and board the Vanderbilt (also has good financial aid). Both are great schools that are a lot of fun to attend, and have strong NROTC programs.

Honorable mentions: Carnegie Mellon, USC, Villanova

One other thing to note: There are many schools that don't offer additional money for scholarship winners but have outstanding financial aid (e.g. Yale, Notre Dame, Stanford, etc.) that cover 100% of demonstrated need.

Also, in hindsight, we've found that each and every private school or out-of-state public school application DS submitted received substantial scholarship awards, in the range of $16-18K/yr, which he can keep and apply towards R&B anywhere he attends on NROTC scholarship (paying full private or out-of-state tuition).

So, in hindsight, he probably would not have applied to or listed the top 2 in-state schools, at ~$13K/yr tuition/fees, where he was auto-admitted based on class rank, alone, but which provided absolutely no scholarship offer whatsoever.

I will have to look into Rice. Thank you! I just assumed I would select my first choice school, but it does not cover room and board. I am looking to start college debt-free, and there are many great schools to choose from. It is a blessing to be grateful for!

If you're going to ask, you should ask the NROTC det and not Admissions. They may have more stroke.

Just FYI, Vanderbilt does not give out any financial aid on a school base if you're on 4 year ROTC scholarship unless your parents make like almost nothing. I've talked with their financial aid staff.

For room/ board, Recommend you contact the schools to confirm exact specifics - another helpful resource is the Room and Board tab here in the forum. If you are looking for NROTC schools that offer room and board support for their students, you can add Embry Riddle in Daytona who ensures students with National Scholarships have enough for a double occupancy room and 14 meal per week plan - either through merit, financial aid or other.

Schools that have limited to no room and board commitment:
Ohio State (a few per year but they do have good merit support), Penn State, Purdue (again limited esp. if you did not apply EA), others can add.

Google can provide you a list of what schools are still taking applications. It will also tell you which schools have NROTC or cross-town affiliation. Then you can cross-compare.

You’re smart enough to get the NROTC scholarship so you probably have crossed the magical 30 ACT threshold. That means you get a very hefty academic scholarship that CAN BE applied to room and board at Good Ole Miami U. So tuition, room and board are all paid for. Great!

College at a great school in an idyllic college campus setting. The look of this place HAS to seen. Parents dream of sending their kids to places that look like this. This is what you think college should look like. No towers. No massive dorms. No massive lecture halls Small student body of 15K. Full Professors are forced to teach classes - no TAs or GAs. Safe, small town setting in a state school.
