Quick question to those on the forums!

As many know I have already sworn in for USMC, and my ship-date is on August 29, 2022. Throughout my 4-year contract, I really desire to try and earn my associates degree before I try and reapply to USNA.

I graduate High-School on May 19,2022.. That would be 109 days between my graduation and my ship-date. What would be the feasibility of trying to start some online college-courses; something I can work on at my own pace. At least some sort of kick-start to try and get my associates degree.

Thank you! Insight would be appreciated.

Many community colleges have 2 summer sessions. Both are usually done by August 29. Depending on your other commitments before your ship-date, you could definitely fit in 2 summer sessions. Does your high school let you take dual-enrollment courses? You could also take some of those for your second semester this school year. Any AP classes that you could get credit for already? What about CLEP tests? If you feel you already have the knowledge, there are quite a few courses you can take CLEP tests for and get credit for.

Personally? As a graduating senior? I would say “enjoy” those last couple months of freedom with friends and family.

Another piece of advice, is to have an education plan. Vs taking classes just to be busy and take classes. You will want to make sure those credits will transfer towards your plan. Not all credits do.

Agree with @justdoit19 .

Spend 109 days getting physically and mentally fit.
  • Run every day. Pull ups every day.
  • Eat right, and healthy. (limit carbs, don't limit protein).
  • work out with the local Marine recruits regularly.
  • Read about Marine history and culture.
  • Run some more.
Try taking one on-line general education class. (history, poli-sci, English etc.) This may help you get used to learning without the structure of high school. Self motivation is tougher when taking classes is not mandatory.

Look into Dual Enrollment while you are still in HS. The cost is usally even lower than just regular community college rates.
