Fees? What's included?

Son was awarded 2 rotc scholarships. NROTC and AFROTC, both cover tuition, book stipend, monthly stipend and fees. What fees are included? As I go through son's itemized statement list I see a list of various fees for haircuts, laundry/dry cleaning, sports passes, corps fees. I am just curious what fees we will be responsible for paying and what fall under the fees covered by his ROTC Scholarship. Trying to determine how much of his college fund we need to access to cover his portion of his education.

Those who have had scholarships what fees were covered?

I think during the application cycle we are in the silent waiting mode. We want the schools to want us and we don't want to stand out as confused or anything other than eager to attend. Once you are accepted you are a member of the school and you are a paying customer. If you do not understand then call or email. College is a $30-63k annual investment--this is not small money for any of us. ASK! Without being apologetic. Every school is different. For ROTC scholarships the ROO might be able to help answer some of the question about items and fees covered. Financial Aid and the Bursar work for you now. Remember that.

For my AFROTC scholarship the fees mean things such as the schools "wellness center fee" etc. Just those things that are attached to tuition amounts.

Thank you for responding! That's what I assumed. The fees would all be related to academic things like lab fees etc... Just wishful thinking that it would cover all of the miscellaneous fees on the itemized list with the Corps of Cadets/ROTC.

What fees are included?

All MANDATORY fees, i.e. the fees which MUST be paid by ALL students. These are as general as student activity fees, health center fees, facility fees, etc.. These also includes fees for specific classes which must be paid by students enrolled in those classes.

Thank you for responding. So, Rotc won't pay for mandatory haircuts, dry cleaning and Aggie sports pass. Ha,ha. ;) That's kind of what I assumed it would be all academic related fees but thought I'd ask.

You better check another thread going related to scholarships. A dad is listing out some mandatory fees that are not being covered.

Leave to Colleges and Universities to think of more ways to charge.

BTW. My DS found a barber who gave him a military discount. Believe me. He still overpaid.

@TexasSoccerMom We had a hard time figuring this out at SMU since there only a handful of ROTC students on the entire campus, but something tells me the financial aid office at A&M knows this like the back of their hand. What we have found is the same as others have posted, any type of fee that is charged to all students and is required by the university and will also include mandatory fees for classes.

DS got tired last year of paying for the buzz cut, ordered a set of electric clippers from Amazon and started cutting his own hair.

Now several of his own battalion ask him to cut theirs!

The "donations" helped pay for the clipper!
