I’m applying to USNA class of 2024 and my cfa score are below:
b-ball throw:29ft
pull-ups: 5
Shuttle: 10.6s
sit-ups: 66
push-ups: 50
mile: 6:40

My basketball throw seems unusually low and after finding a video i realized i didn’t use the best form to maximize my distance (i didn’t really use my torso). I already asked my admissions counselor if I could retake it and those are my scores for try 2, do you think I should take it one more time to get the throw down?

i’m a female btw

If you think you can do better before the end of this month, definitely do what you can to improve your scores. I got 30' on the ball throw and I passed. Your scores are great, by the way! Really great job on those pull-ups!

I'm just a dad. If I was giving advice to my daughter, with those numbers, I would tell her to retake it, only if you were certain you would eclipse your pull ups, mile and it fit in schedule without impacting other areas. i.e. studying for ACT/SAT ECA's etc. Your pull ups will put in rare company for a female and your mile is solid. I am sure someone else will chime in. It's my understanding from reviewing this forum, the CFA is weighted with Pull ups and Mile having more gravity than BB throw.

I say try it again because you should always strive to do better! Side note-- your other scores are really good! Congrats! Keep working hard.

I would definitely redo on the basketball throw. It’s all technique. I practiced it and was able to get about 50 feet. If you practice you’ll be able to improve your score. Other than that all your scores are very good.

The Bball throw isn't super important to USNA (as compared to the other events). And you've done very well in the other events. I'd check with your RD but my gut says not to retake it.

Remember though, you retake the entire test and all of your new scores are entered. It's not super-scored like the SAT/ACT tests. So, you may do great on the basketball throw (by the way, you will never do another basketball throw in your life) but you may end up doing not so great on your other events. Your numbers are fantastic. I would write them in stone and move on to the next hurdle.

Well .... if you’re thinking that you might hurl a Hand Grenade some day, practicing the BB toss won’t hurt.
