Hello!
I’m getting my haircut tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had some insight on how short I should cut it. I somewhat know the requirements and know it doesn’t have to be short short, but I’m trying to decide what a good length would be. I’ve heard some say you should cut it really short because the low bun chafes, but others say that’s not necessary.

If you want to be able to wear it down it can't touch the collar, besides that I would recommend any length that still allows you to do your preferred style on a short time limit. Right before I left for basic training I cut a few inches thinking it would make it easier to style, but then it was much harder to put it into a bun!

As someone with very short hair (you can PM if you want a picture), I HIGHLY recommend you go as short as you are comfortable going if the plan is to keep it down in basic. By the end mine was definitely getting pretty shaggy and while not really that close to being out of regs, it was already getting pretty annoying. The reg has changed, so it can be both shorter than it used to and it can touch your eyebrows, so that definitely helps.

This is the style I usually show when I go to get my haircuts and it hasn't failed me yet (you can find more angles from the same photo shoot)1652829448761.png

I got clippers during the Pandemic....I like short on me anyway. I got down to a #5 which is 5/8ths of an inch. Very easy to take care of. Even 1" would be simple. In 6 weeks it'd be another 3/4ths inch to an inch due to growth. No muss, no fuss.

If possible, get an undercut. I have one and it's made styling easier and the heat much bearable. I go down to a #2 on mine :)
