Does anyone know what the female medical exam entails? Is it very basic? My daughter is getting hers today and is a little worried.

This is a great opportunity for her to call the doctor’s office, ask to speak to a doctor’s team member, let them know what kind of appointment she has today, and say exactly that - she is a little nervous at age x-teen and would feel less so if she knew what it entailed. This is a a step toward taking control of her own healthcare advocacy. Given the timeline and she may be in school right now, you can call, and coach her on the technique later and how she has rights as a patient.

My imagination tends to leap forward when I am facing a new procedure or type of exam. I still do exactly that - call and ask, including, “is that likely to cause pain?” I am fine with pain or discomfort once I have a heads-up about it. Ditto an invasive part of an exam.

That's a good idea. She is calling now to ask.

Also, pain is not really the issue. I was not trying to go into to much detail as to why. But she is good now. She got her answer when she called.
