Females buzzing their head/pixie cuts?

This was touched upon in another thread, but not really answered and after reading many different posts I'm getting a little worried. I'm a girl going into c/o 23, and currently have a pixie cut. I was thinking about buzzing it all off sometime before I-day for many different reasons, but am now seeing that that's not within regulations for females, as well as comments that it will bring a lot more heat on me from detailers during PS. Any advice? I'm concerned that keeping the pixie for PS will ultimately be more of a bother with it being in my face but unable to fully pin back.

How does a pixie cut get into your face? If the top is below your eyebrows when wet, have them cut it to stay out of your eyes.

DDs roommate is determined to go Marine Ground and has a high and tight cut but some curls on the top. No issues for her.

For the last 43 years, women plebes have managed with hair that is no longer than the bottom edge of their collar. Look at historical pictures and you'll see there were various versions of that cut. A short cut is pretty easy to manage during the summer -- it never looks great but, with a good cut, it will look okay and will dry out pretty quickly. It's a pain for a couple of months when you grow it out, but generations of women have managed.

This year, plebe women have the option of keeping their hair long. Anyone who's been through plebe summer will tell you that your hair will be wet 90% of the time. Wet in the morning with PEP. No time to blow dry after your shower, so your morning continues with it wet -- clean wet but still wet. You then march around in the heat and humidity all day -- the bun won't dry out. You'll have swim evolutions -- hair stays wet. Depending on length, it may or may not dry out overnight. And on you go. So if you plan to keep it long, make sure it doesn't mold (no kidding). Also make sure you practice on putting it up QUICKLY.

There is no reason to get a buzz cut. Obviously, it's your call. But it's not necessary. As to whether that would attract more (or less) attention from the detailers . . . I would think that the only folks who should get called out for hair issues are those (male or female) whose hair is not within regs. Or, if you get mold in your hair.

I didn't go to USNA but would offer the following: Whether it is boot camp, OCS, ROTC indoc or a service academy indoc program, the "detailers" will find something to focus extra attention on you. Its impossible to fly under the radar if they are doing their jobs right.

USMCGrunt is exactly right. Every detailer will find a way to push each Midshipmen, regardless of how good they are.

Great point by @USMCGrunt

Our room at OCS failed a room inspection - for condensation on the outside window on the 3rd deck. My prior enlisted roomie just laughed and said they couldn’t find anything else to get us on.

The pixie cut should be just fine.

They found a dead bee in our stair well. As punishment we had a funeral with full military honors for Sergeant Bee and had an honor guard added to our detail for 48 hours.
Back to our regularly programmed thread.
I’ve known several Midshipman and Cadets with “pixie” cuts. No issues.

Thanks for all the advice! Does anyone know if a shaved head is actually out of regulations of not for females?

No, it’s not. There were female plebes last year who went very short. There were rules last year about “how long,” and this year there are rules about “how long” but different ways of getting there. But there are no rules about “how short.”
