My DS (junior in HS) completed his SLE app, signed into the portal to become familiar with it, and send a quick email to his assigned FFR to introduce himself. He sent the email last night. This morning, someone from the FFR's office called him at school and asked if he can have do a zoom call TODAY at 5 pm. She stated the FFR only does them once a month. My DS changed his after school activity to accommodate. Does this sound like a get to know you situation, time to ask questions, etc? I assume this isn't the interview, because he's so early in the process? Please share your knowledge!! Thank you.

Sounds unusual. But yes, it is a getting to know you and maybe the FFR will provide details on: This is when I do interviews, this is what I expect from you, and this is how I do CFAs. Hopefully your kid gets into SLE and will have those items fulfilled already.
Get ready Mom.

This might be a good time for your DS to think about a few generalized questions. Likely he won't need to ask much given the FFR's outreach. S/he clearly has a plan for the call. I'd anticipate this will be a timeline type discussion - so that your DS stays on track, which clearly he is so far. Zoom call is the chance for a good first impression - so DS should be well groomed and dressed neatly (but not in full on interview attire).

Thank you very much for your reply. This is what he thought as well!

Just wanted to ask if you're contacting the Congressional District rep or the State Rep. I would assume the Congressional rep would have much more time and be more available. I'm also a junior and had not even considered reaching out to the rep(s) proactively like this. Thank you

If you want to do this, go with the Congressional District Office and the Senator's Office. Most of them have the proper info on their websites so it might not take a phone call. Your State Rep, Delegate and State Senators have no role in Service Academy Admissions.

He contacted the state rep because the portal said that the congressional district rep was unknown at this time. He was told to contact his MOC to get the name of the congressional rep.

I meant the Congressional District FFR or the State FFR. I was under the impression you could contact both of these people.

I don't know that the FFR, who is in a relationship with USMA Admissions is necessarily related to your Congressman's office...It is not a one for one.

Yes, Andor2024, I understood your question to mean this. He contacted the listed FFR on his CQ (my DS said it was the state position). And the FFR told him that the MOC could give him the name of the district FFR.
