Field Training Extra Packing list

DS will be going to the Mongolia CULP. I know Army is supposed to supply everything needed, but will any of these suggestions for field training apply? I would like for him to be prepared. Thanks

He's Army. He's already prepared as part of his job description. He won't need baby powder, shower shoes, knee pads, or anything like that. He'll already have what he needs in his ruck. If he needs something he didn't bring, and if he can't improvise with a boot lace, an MRE spoon, and a length of hundred-mile-an-hour tape, he didn't try hard enough. On second thought... Make sure he takes Chubs baby wipes. (No matter how hard he tries, the three above items cannot replace Chubs.)

You are correct you should not place colored duct tape on your duffle bag or carry on. However, you should still bring it. I'm not going to say much more on that subject because it will detract from the experience. As someone who attended SFT last year, I know it is a good thing to have.

My POC also said that....Hmmm I am wondering what this will be!

Thanks ABF! I've already bought a couple of packs of Chubs for him. I know that will be important.

If he's going to Mongolia in June or July, then Mongolian Death Worm repellant is a must. It is identified locally as the olgoi khorkoi, which makes it sound much less harmless than it actually is. The MDW is one of the deadliest creatures known to man. It spits a corrosive yellow venom and can emit deadly electric charges at a distance. No one has ever reported seeing one, which should give you a sense of just how dangerous it is.

I don't know why the Army hasn't mentioned this.

These are, I think, related to the notorious Snipe!

What is color duct tape for?

I think it is self evident. One must get the beasts under control somehow.

also I have a question for the ladies... can we keep a couple tampons in our abu's while they are in our closet or will they give us a 341 for that?

Yes! Bring a bag to put them in. Bottom right leg cargo pocket was where we were told to keep them

Another item - iron?

I see no where in the packing list or manual about bringing an iron or laundry detergent - are those provided?

FINALLY got a letter from our son at MAX 1 - sounds pretty busy - he wrote a sentence or two every night for 7 days before he could mail it due to time constraints - He really stressed attention to detail being very important - especially with the packing list and room inspection. He did appreciate some of the items he added to his list from suggestions made here so big kudos to all of you posters who made suggestions here.

Romad :shake:

Attention to detail is very important here at max 1 & 2

I leave in a month and I'm terrified

Anything specific or just terrified in general? Is the wait making it worse? Would you rather have gone sooner? Just curious...

What are the guidelines or recommendations for how to label socks and towels? I think the manual just describes what needs to be labeled but not where/how. Should labels show when folded/rolled or be hidden? Does it need to be a certain size?

I think - while washing some of those things he brought back from Max 1 - the socks were labeled on the heel and the towels in a lower corner - legible when held upright by the upper corners. Not sure if it was done to any spec.

From what I remember from last year, no one in my flight was criticized on the placement of their laundry mark. Unless they updated the FTM, there is no "correct" way to do it. However some ways are more correct then others. I put the laundry marks for socks across the top of the sock (not the ankle part), shirts on the hem, towels on one of the corners, and underwear on the tag. Make the marks easy to quickly identify. The last thing you want is for your cloths to be misplaced.

Rule of thumb: Don't let the mark be visible when you are in uniform, but have it easy to find when its coming out of a laundry machine.

To hanstine93: The wait is the worst part. Honestly the worst part of field training for me (besides the humidity) were the final moments before you get off the bus. Once everything started, I was kinda relieved because I could start doing things instead of just anticipating them. You're gonna be fine don't worry.

Our DS placed his on the toe, and on the labels for everything else. I agree I don't think they really care.

I know for our DS this was done for the bag drag so if it was a problem he would have been nailed before he left school. I am not saying that it is the correct way, I am just saying that is what he did and was accepted as being okay.

Thanks for all the suggestions - sound like it's more common sense where to put them more than per spec. I don't think DS had a bag drag because they were in finals week when EA's came out. The handles on his bag were actually ripping off so he didn't start packing everything until he got the handles sewn. I see why they have the cadets do this before school ends...helps to just have it done!

DD came home from Max 1 and said it was not as bad as she expected. 12 cadets didn't make it through, roughly 6 flunked out and 6 due to injury.

That actually is about the avg washout rate...5% Just putting it out there so posters don't get nervous by the number.

Does anyone know if people have encountered problems wearing shirt stays while at the airport? I was planning on wearing mine but I am worried the metal clips would set off a metal detector and cause me trouble.
