Field Training Extra Packing list

I'm planning on wearing mine too...worst comes to worst, you can take them off and put them back on in the bathroom after security. But I'm pretty sure that they really shouldn't be a problem. I'm more worried about losing them if they come off!! :p

Does anyone know if people have encountered problems wearing shirt stays while at the airport? I was planning on wearing mine but I am worried the metal clips would set off a metal detector and cause me trouble.

I take between 100 and 150 flights a year. So I speak with a lot of experience. I can't say for certain as I don't wear shirt stays anymore but even if you "alarm" it is not a big issue. They may do a quick check (pat down or questioning) but no biggie.

If you are in uniform, there is usually a healthy respect and understanding. (Not always but... "usually")

If you have any issue or problem, ask to speak to a TSA supervisor. That should make things go smoothly.

Good luck

I should add that at many airports and many airlines, active duty military (those traveling on orders) get to use the short TSA lines reserved for flight crews and employees.

Most issues are training related rather than "attitude". I just got to my hotel after traveling through Philadelphia this evening and I saw an active duty serviceman trying to check bags without a fee. The agents knew he wasn't supposed to pay (he had orders) but couldn't figure out how to authorize it. A supervisor had to get involved.

Heard no Max 1 horror stories IRT that subject... However, DO pay attention to how you fill out forms...

:shake:

New Question

Change of subject here; I am just curious if anyone knows how common it is to get sent home from FT because of height/weight standards. I am 74" and I am usually around 216, which is two pounds over the limit for males. However I have a PFA score of 97 and I have a 32" waist. I leave in a week, so I hope I am just getting worked up about nothing.

I found the answer to my own question about the shirt stays. Caught word that Max 1 cadets say that you have to take shirt stays off at in processing and then never have time to put them back on. The consensus is to not wear shirt stays on TD-0.

You can easily lose 2-3 pounds in a week. Why wouldn't you?

That's what I am currently trying to do. I just wanted to know how common it is for people to be sent home because of it, especially if they are in good shape and have an acceptable body fat percentage.

It's just the same as your home unit (in theory...)- if you pass the BF test after not passing the traditional height/weight test, then you're fine. But we definitely had people from my flight sent home on the first day for not making weight, as there was a running "I'm going to rank you below BMI Guy" joke.

How do we know which FTU and FLT is theirs?

Well, FTU, they should've told you or it should be lying around (often posted on Facebook in the annual "friends, write me letters!" statuses); this is often referred to as what "Max" you're going to, so Max 1, 2, 3, etc.

As for flight, you find out at the airport and some are able to pass it along to their parents/post it on social media. Last year we were under the impression that it made sorting a little bit faster, but it's no big deal if you send it without the flight if you don't know it. With the intentional and unintentional mail complications at FT, I don't know if it even really makes a difference.

FTU is which Field Training Unit you are at. Max 1 and 2 were FTU-1 and Max 3, 4, and 5 are FTU-2.

Congrats to the cadets from Max 1 & 2 on making it through, good luck to the cadets heading out for 4 & 5, and my condolences to the cadets currently there in Max 3.

Just dropped DS off at the airport for Max 4. It was the first time I saw him in uniform (so proud) and I found out you're not supposed to hug in uniform

We dropped our son off this morning, also. I didn't know about the hugging thing! I wonder if any of the parents on here have gone to the final parade? I'm on the fence so I just wondered what other families did or are doing?

Oh...he got a hug - he told us he shouldn't after I hugged him. I think he was just trying to make sure he was 'following regs'.

We considered going to graduation but we decided it's pretty far to go for a short ceremony. I'd love to be there for it but I guess we're going to pass.

My wife dropped off my DS at the airport this morning, alot of hugs in the pics my wife sent me of her and my daughter with my DS. As far as the mailing address goes, the FTU designation should be their Max number, which will be 4 for our children. My DS heard originally what undflyboy posted, but after the letters my DS sent to his buddies at Max 3 came back undelivered, we found out different.
