My son is currently doing his field training and I am planning to go to the parade on the last day. Anyone have any tips or helpful things that I should know? What do I expect? Appreciate anything you have.

Thanks,

The parade really isn't on the last day..It is on TD-27 which is Aug 6 for Max 5 and Aug 23 for Max 6.
Some things to expect are a lot of tears of joy, this is a pretty huge milestone in a cadets ROTC career. This will be their start in the POC.
I do not know if you actually got the schedule of the whole entire day, if you do not have it I can send it to you.

Son is at MAX 6; TD-27 is on Tue August 20th. Here is the itinerary as it pertains to parents:

0600-0700: Prop and Wings Warrior Run
0830-0910: Parents arrive Maxwell AFB (See attached Maps).
0910-0920: Parents must be in place in Parade Stands
0920-0930: Parade Start
0930-1000: Graduation Parade
1000-1030: Time for Parents and cadets to link up and take pictures/mingle
1030-1220: Time for cadets to spend with parents (See Map for lunch options)
1220-1230: Cadets must be signed back in with Field Training Staff

See you there...unless you are going next week...

Thank you

I did not have a schedule and appreciate it. I am going for the parade on the 20th. Was hoping we could take pictures and video. Thanks so much for this information

Fiveteez,

If you PM me your email, I can forward the map/info my son received from Maxwell through his detachment.

One important note...your son needs to submit a visitor list prior to TD-12. He probably has that covered but just in case the following was the exact direction provided...

"Cadets are responsible for providing the information requested on page 4 of the field training manual to the Project Officer prior to TD-12 for each encampment (Max 2-10 June, Max 3-24 June, Max 4-8 July, Max 5-22 July, Max 6-5 August). If this information is not provided to the Project Officer base access will not be granted to the visitors. The cadets are advised at in-processing (TD-0)and TD-2 to write a letter home requesting this information if they did not follow the directions in the field training manual to bring it with them and provide it at in-processing. Most cadets have the information stored on their cell phone. Tell them to write it down on a piece of paper since they do not have access to their cell phone after they leave the Atlanta airport."

Moving ceremony.

We loved it, very moving. One poor cadet took a knee due to the heat. The cafeterias were mobbed after. I'd do a tour of the base first and let the crowd clear out a bit.

how do I look at the maps for the lunch and parade stuff?

One thing I would recommend doing is getting a picture of the Prop and Wings with your Cadet. This is something that I wish I had done if I had family coming to the parade. We were not able to visit the Prop and Wings with camera's during FT.

Prop and Wings

Where is the prop and wings and when is the best time to get this picture with my cadet?

Type these coordinates on google maps and you'll see the Prop and Wings: 32.378527,-86.351164 The best time to take a picture would probably be during the time when you are able to have lunch with your cadet.

Congratulations to FTU-6 (and FTU 1-5 as well) on graduating FT and earning your Prop & Wings. I was glad to have had the opportunity to be at Maxwell this past Tuesday. We are very fortunate to have bright young men and women, such as yourselves, step up in defense of our nation. All the best as you enter the POC and embark on your AF careers.
