Crazy all of the time just wasted.. I could’ve been so much more productive if I would of known that I was disqualified back in July. I could apply ED to schools and complete college applications much much earlier than I did.

Apparently I’m academically disqualified with a 1200 SAT.
There's usually more to an academic disqualification than a single SAT score, although 1200 isn't very competitive. On the plus side, the reason Prep School exists is to academically prepare candidates they think have potential. Most of these slots got to academically disqualified folks. So if the rest of your application is strong there is still some hope.

A few thoughts:
Prep school? No offer was made so the possibility exists that your application may have had additional parameters which were not met. Take a critical look at your app compared to the class of 2023's profile available.

Reapply? You wouldn't be the first, lots of posters here who got in on the 2nd & even their 3rd try! SA's like that type of determination & you're a year older which can help with the workload, responsibilities, time mgmnt., etc. DD was saying just yesterday how much the priors & prep's brought a calming influence to the group when everyone else was freaking out about this & that...Use the Search function for those posts.

Service: There are other ways to become an Officer. Once you're commissioned, no one cares where or how you got here, just what can you do.

SAT/ACT? Lot & lots of posts on the forum. A tutor can get those scores up with math the easier subject to increase (the tutors words, not mine) but both can be done if you put the work in. Maybe ACT a better test for you; lots of candidates find this to be the case.... SA's take both.

CFA/WCS: You have a whole year to crush, & I mean crush it. Get all of the other components of your WCS up.

Take some time to feel bad, then accept the results & move on with the plan. Good Luck!

On top of all this, I would also add that by going thru the application process and meeting the requirements, you must have stretched, learned new skills ( time management, goal setting, social skills, fitness etc etc). Do you feel that you have moved forward in life by going thru this process? My DD is a junior and this is her application year now ( 2020, class of 2025). She has had major struggles so far ( in every aspect) and my advice for her is that even if she does not gets accepted into her choice of SA, she is still better off. Her resume for a regular civilian college is 10 times better just because she is pursuing an SA goal.

Good luck in your journey..Our wishes that you are able to achieve your goals.

My older DS applied to SAs but was not accepted and instead accepted one of the two ROTC Scholarships he was awarded. On the day that he learned that the door to SA had closed he was at peace. He very matter of fact said, "My goal has been to commission and all this means is that my journey continues on a different path." I spoke with him earlier to let him know that his brother did receive an appointment as I know that he harbored small wish that he might join him at NU. He spoke frankly and admitted that he didn't prepare himself adequately for the CFA. At that time, he was sporting about 50 pounds more than his current weight, was not the best runner, nor agile. While his grades were similar to his brother, his test scores were slightly lower. While it still "smarts" to know that he wasn't awarded an appointment, I'm proud that he can do a self inventory and be honest that he didn't put himself in the best position for an appointment.

Big brother was very excited for his brother and couldn't wait to share an update with his peers and especially that they will be relatively close by for the next few years. The only downside is that they will be cheering on opposite sides and our home will be a house divided. :)

To Cadet35: I hope that you continue to work towards what you want. Seek the resources and guidance to help you. Right now you're disappointed and it's difficult to understand the "Why?" and "What -ifs?" but time will eventually give you clarity, understanding and peace.

I’m sorry to hear you now view your effort as “crazy.” I hope that you will come to see the process as worthwhile and that it will have helped you to clearly identify paths forward. I hope that if you keep chasing USMA and if you end up as a college reapplicant, you will come to realize your time was not wasted at all. Any discussion with RC about what you might need to do to improve your chances next time around or USMAPS? Hopefully, you find a plan B to commissioning that you end up happy with.

None of us know your academic strength. It sounds as if the Academy had concerns even if you were 3Q. The fact is USMA is tough academically and if you were borderline you can prove yourself as a college reapplicant by doing well in challenging college courses that mimic an academy schedule. And, you’d be much better off going that route than struggling to the point of being separated after getting an appointment.

I’m hoping a great plan B emerges for you.i

Okay, perseverance is a quality that an officer MUST have. I know this hurts, but if you really want to reapply, or commission through a different route you WILL find a way.

Five years ago, my DS went through the ringer, and was nominated to both USNA and USMA, but ultimately declined by both. He was accepted to an SMC but did not receive the NROTC scholarship so it was not affordable due to out of state costs.

He ended up going to a local State University and was a "walk-on" Army ROTC cadet. He earned a 3 year campus based scholarship which was extended to 3.5 years. He is now a 2LT.

As others have stated, figure out what you want to do and find a way to get there!

My child's portal still hasn't shown "deemable". Rep said to be patient. The fact that nothing beyond candidate questionnaire has shown I'm wondering if the process ended?

This thread is from last year’s cycle.

went AROTC scholarship route & I’m lovin it. Honestly I think I prefer this route much more than USMA. May be biased, but not really. Most of my peers feel the same way.
Thank you for your perspective. There are multiple paths that lead to service as an officer in the USA, there is not an absolute "right" path for everyone and the big challenge for most applicants is to determine which path is the best fit for them.

I am glad that you found your path. Thank you for pursuing a career of service.
