File reviewed but no notification?

Hey everyone,

I received my "Candidate File Qualified" notice late february. My FFA said that my file was scheduled to be reviewed by the admissions board for a final decision today, but I not have gotten the call from my MOC that admitted candidates usually receive in my district. Is there a couple days delay between the decision and notification, or have I most likely been denied?

I know it may be a little early to start thinking in hypotheticals-just really anxious to find out my status!!!!

It is definitely too early to get worried. From what I've heard, MOCs are given 3-5 days to notify candidates before the BFE is sent out / portal is updated. The MOC and his/her staff may have been otherwise occupied, a decision could have been made after they left the office, or a number of other unforeseen circumstances could have occurred. I thought the MOC called in my district (friend who got into Navy got a call), but I simply came home to the BFE about 5 days after my file was presumably reviewed. It's a very unpredictable process.

Does "Candidate File Qualified" on your portal mean file has been reviewed by the board too? That was my impression, but not sure.

West Point gives the MOCs the first opportunity to tell to notify a candidate of their appointment. They have 72 hours to do so. Some MOCS will call, some won't.
After 72 hours, then the FFR (or anyone else that knows you have been offered an appointment) can notify the candidate.
In the meantime, the appointment has been mailed, which is usually received by the end of the week.
The candidate's portal is updated also, but that is usually the last method of notification.

No, it means that your file has been through the qualifying process - which means that is has been reviewed by your RC, another RC and a member of the Admissions Committee. To receive an appointment, you must be Qualified with a nom. Just because you are Qualified does not mean you have a nom.
Once your are Qualified (3Q'd) with a nom, then your RC can bring your file before the Admissions committee for a vote.

Am I still eligible for an appointment if WP still doesn't have my 7th semester transcript (I am 3q and have MOC Nom)? My school sent them out Around Feb 20 and WP still has not received it. Do you think WP will look unfavorably at my application because of this, even though it is beyond my control?

You can still receive an appointment without your 7th semester transcript being received by WP.

Hmm, now I am even more confused. This is the letter on her portal...and yes, she has MOC-Nom:

We have received all your application information and the Admissions Committee has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2017. You have demonstrated strong initiative and diligence in completing your file. Although qualified, you are still competing for admission and should continue to update your record with significant achievements in academic, leadership, and extracurricular and athletic activities. Do not forget to include standardized test scores or updated transcripts from your most recently completed academic semester. We will continue to add achievements to your file through the end of February 2017. Although most offers of admission will be tendered before 1 May 2017, final selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters. Thank you for your continuing interest in West Point. Go Army!

So, I am thinking the admission committee just reviewed her file. Is this not the case? Don't we just wait for an appointment from NWL, hopefully??? Is the admissions committe and the "board" the same ppl?

That letter is a 3Q (Qualified) letter. Her file has gone through the qualifying process and it is now 'qualified'. It does not mean that her file has gone before the admissions committee (although it may have).
She is on the NWL since she is qualified with a nom. So, yes, it is the wait game now.
The terms 'Admissions Committee' and 'Board' are interchangeable. I've only heard WP use the term, 'Admissions Committee'- not 'Board.'
I hope that makes sense.

Yes, I think I get it. How will she know if it has gone before the 'board' or 'admissions committee'? Is that updated in her portal too? Does the RC tell her? Or? Thanks again.

She won't know if her file is going before the Admissions Committee, unless her RC tells her. Sometimes the FFR knows. It is not shown on the portal and is not something that is normally disclosed to the candidate.

Her FFR isn't very informative or involved. His wife was actually the one she spoke with a handful of times in the beginning. Her RC is really nice, but it's like pulling teeth to get information she tells me. She did finally meet him last week and he told her 80% she'll get an appointment, so she will just have to continue to wait. Her plan B is pretty secure too. Thanks for the info.

My DD had no clue she was getting an appointment. The BFE showed up Jan. 21. Her FFR has always been in close contact with her and gave her zero indication she was even considered. Her RC even told her she needed to increase her test scores. 7th semester grades didn't even go out yet when the offer arrived. So You just never know, as hard as it is!

Does one always received a portal status change to 'Candidate File Qualified' prior to Admissions committee vote? DS has not had a change in portal for many weeks after completion (and qualified medically, CFA, etc.). Sounds like the RCs do not all follow the same process (i.e. our RC doesn't allow multiple CFAs whereas one east coast RC does) and I realize it may not be the same across the board. Just waiting here... ;)

@azmilmom - I don't know for sure, but my guess is that all portals are updated - eventually. They are probably super busy right now and could be that updating portals is not high on their list.
It is possible that his file has not gone through the qualifying process (it has to be reviewed by her RC, another Rc and a member of the Admissions Committee). Did he get a 3Q letter?
You are correct in that RCs handle things differently.

No 3Q letter but RC has told him that his CFA was passing, DoDMERB is qualified, he has three noms, and everything else looks good (not that he should be confident of an appointment, just that all his to-dos are done.) I'm sure that they're super busy and since DS didn't complete his application in full until towards the end of January, he's probably at the bottom of the stack. :)

Quick question - do all qualified/nom files eventually get in front of the committee for a review/vote, or is it only a subset that RC deems competitive? Thanks.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think that they do.
The RC does choose which files in his region go before the Admissions Committee, but they work within how candidates are ranked on the NWL (top to bottom by WCS). Those at the bottom of the list probably won't make it to the Admissions Committee - unless they are a candidate that falls in the 'Additional Appointees' category (where WP can appoint candidates without regard to the WCS). 'Additional Appointees' are those that help WP meet their composition goals - usually underrepresented minorities.

Thank you very much for that clarification. I was trying to determine whether those candidates who are told their file is going "up for review" have a somewhat better chance of appointment than the pool at large of 3Q/nom candidates, and it sounds like they do (although how much better is probably not really knowable).
