Finally met 2 legends from SAF

What were the secret tip offs? Eye contact with wearer and his/her overt SAF bacon apparel? Or a discreet lapel pig pin and the slight scent of sizzling bacon? Maybe an eye chart and blood pressure cuffs at the ready? The SAF community holds its collective breath for a chance encounter with other legends at the next Service Academy information event.

Mr Mullen was invited to the stage by the host. For Hcopter, we spoke to each other over the phone couple of times, so I was able to recognise by name on the name tag.

I was looking for bacon related signage for others however...

I would bet when Mr. Mullen spoke, a halo formed of live emojis could be faintly seen above his head, over which the thought balloons filled with bolded red and black ink floated - visible only to SAF members who had at least 5 posts, had been members at least a week, and smelled distantly of bacon.

txfwindian - Well, well, well.:zip: There's not many times that I'm speechless, but apparently you've released the hounds. 🐶 I appreciate all the kind words and sentiments. We all do what we can, in our own little ways, to help the applicants navigate the Admissions process in whatever way we can.

What's important to note though, is during my speech, the first thing I did was say hello to all the parents and grandparents that were in attendance...and then in the truest deference to (Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "Questions on the process;") Paragraph 4....I said THAT would be the last thing I would say to them that day. For those in attendance, that day was a day of TRANSITION ... when the young folks interested in applying to SAs and/or ROTC programs became in CHARGE of THEIR future!!! The sage advice and counsel for their DDs/DSs would be confined to within the home...that ALL communiques with Congressional staffers; admissions staffs; DoDMERB, etc. would be between the applicant and those folks. Applicants shall be the ONLY ones in 99.9% of cases to conduct the communications. The bunk beds in the Academy barracks/dorms are for ... roommates...not parents.

made eye contact with me...approached me...and then said, "I'm NOT here to ask you any questions...I'm here to thank you." In essence, he was not only thanking me...he was thanking everyone on SAF who help the applicants get through the admissions wickets. On behalf of all the folks that provide assistance, I thank txfwindian and state == it's our honor and privilege to serve:yay::yikes::welcome1:

But only applicants could see them. NOT parents.

HOW COOL!!! Still curious if he looks like Chuck Norris 🤔

Daw, thank you for the kind words but I am not anything close to a legend! Just a parent that really enjoys the SA application process and now doing things with the parents club!

I really was star struck! My brief encounter with greatness was standing in the back of the auditorium (trying to spot the other parent with our matchy-matchy name tags), and then who was walking towards the back, almost headed right to me, but the one and only Larry Mullen! I said, "Mr. Mullen, thank you for all you do!" as he walked by. I think he was either getting ready for his presentation or heading for the breakout tables. I recognized him from 2020/21 online event and the DoDMERB section video.
