Fire near Colorado Springs

cadets inprocessing

My dad just got off of a teleconference with USAFA, said that all the cadets will report on Thursday as scheduled (to Doolittle I assume,) then be bussed to a local high school across the interstate for the actual inprocessing, and presumably encampment if the cadet area is evacuated. Ironically, the high school is my high school!

We got evacuation orders on the south side of base. Don't worry, i evacuated before posting this.

The news says cadets are being evacuated to Fort Carson. I pray they get this fire under control. Pine Valley residents are evacuating too.

Base housing to the south is being evacuated, but the cadet area is still here, for now.

From what I've been told (BCT group): If evac orders come down, most of us will actually be going to our sponsors houses as long as they are on the East side of I-25. We've all prepared an evac bag just in case. Don't worry 2016: we've all been instructed to bring our BCT uniforms!

Permanent party and teachers are housing the rest.

The fire is close to the school. My son thinks they are not going to be evacuated. I am watching the news, this fire is really bad. A spokeperson on the news said it is the worst fire they have ever had in this 34 years there.

This will most definitely make for a unique summer experience... agreed on the prayers^^

If anyone has people in route (like I do) hotels in the downtown Colorado Springs area are, as of 11:20 ET, not evacuating. http://www.springsgov.com/index.aspx has an evacuation map to give you an idea of where to look for alternate hotels. Wow. Prayers to all affected and fighting this monster.

Son said they are evacuating in less than an hour. Just waiting on word. Appears they have done the evacs from AFA in waves to avoid congestion on exit.

The hotel we were planning on staying in has been evacuated. It is the Hampton Inn at 7245 Commerce Center Dr.

Look for hotels out by airport - as far east as you can go. If you aren't in COS, plan to stay in another town.

appears from the map that the fire is running North Northwest towards Rampart Reservoir. If the wind changes and swings Easterly it could easily run over the ridge and bear right down on the academy grounds.

We are at hotel near North Entrance awaiting Thursdays in processing for class of 2016 and have been told that at least part of the Academy has already been evacuated. From our hotel, the fire is much closer to the Academy than is comfortable.

Both Pine and Douglas Valley have been ordered evacuated.

Just out of curiosity, if the fires reach the academy, where will we go during the school year?

As of now the cadet area has not been evacuated. I heard they were going to re-evalute in 12 hours and decide if we need to then. If an evacuation is ordered, plans have already been set in place to move inprocessing and BCT to another location until we can go back to the Academy.

Commandant said there was no way that they would let the fire get this close. They have an entire station devoted to the cadet area.
