First Mail

Letters Last Friday

got our first ones last friday, nice letters with a few requests for different things in the next care package. During Sundays phone call we learned she has gotten 3 of the 6 care package shipped so far. Some platoons have gotten zip so far :frown:.

6 care packages already...you are making me look bad...i have only sent 3:(

For those of you who have the time and the means, please consider sending extra care packages to the Chaplain's office, letters of encouragement too. They distribute to Plebes who receive little or no mail. Each time we sent our now ENS :thumb: a package, we'd ship to the Chaplain's as well. It was generic with lots of food and Propel packets, happy notes etc......You would be surprised at the number of Plebes who do not receive the support that others do. A Company mate of our kiddo was directly from the fleet, was 1 of those. That awesome kid became our '2nd' Plebe & was so appreciative even to this day. Just something to consider.

Breadcrumbs...what a great idea! I have accumulated so much stuff to send, and DS said he really didn't need much! Next box will go to the Chaplain's office...do I just address it as that or include the street address? thanks!

ITs sad to think some have no letters or care packs coming!! PLEASE send address or how to address to support all these wonderful plebes!!

When I went off to PS, it was against parental wishes, so I got no mail or care packages during the summer (it's okay, I didn't expect to). There were a handful of others in my PS platoon (= Ac year company mates) who didn't have parents, or had really really poor parents, or had similar difficult circumstances, or were international. One of my most favorite memories of the entire summer and plebe year was having the chaplain hand me a package one Sunday morning - our third Sunday, as a matter of fact. In it were homemade chocolate chip cookies, beef jerky, a small American flag, Band-aids, some kind of baby wipes (Bancroft had no A/C back in the day), a small container of foot powder, and three blue rims that were one size larger than I was issued (and were perfect). I felt so rich. I floated around the Yard that day. I hit all my rates and shared half the cookies with my platoon. That act of kindness sustained me in so many ways.

I know you USNA parents are no more well-off than anyone these days, but if you can afford splurging on $10 or $15 of small, necessary items and a home-baked thing, do not underestimate how much a difference you will make. I'm tearing up as I remember that day and it's over 20 years ago. (Don't go overboard, it's not about the size.)

GabsmomFL & kmseamom- I sent you the address. Please check your PM's when you have a chance. But I see that LongAgoPlebe got me covered, thank you! And thank you for your personal story. A care package from a caring stranger really does make a difference.

Thanks for sharing the story... Brought a tear to my eye on how much it could mean to someone. Can't wait to brighten someones day!
