I think I know the unfortunate answer here, but would the AROTC scholarship 1st round decision come back in time to apply ED admission (Nov 1) where you are 'locked-in' to accepting an offer and, thereby, cost of enrollment? Hope this makes sense. Thanks!

No... you won't know.
Which are you going to go ED apply to?
I recommend you only ED if you can afford the school without the scholarship.
There are candidates that are top/top that don't get the scholarship despite their accolades and qualifications.
You must get cleared by DODMERB, PMS interview etc.

My DS did get a ISR from Navy- very early. He used that to apply to Yale- he did get in.

I think the Army board is mid OCT and you get word back just after most early college applications are due.

Thank you, that is what I figured but just wanted to verify.

These are the board dates for this year's cycle.

  • board meets 17-21 October 2022
  • board meets 23-27 January 2023
  • board meets 13-17 March 2023
  • All packet items must be completed by these dates to meet the Army ROTC scholarship deadline
Usually 2 weeks after the board meeting the results are announced. So maybe Nov 4 at the earliest if I had to guess.

Hello! I was just nominated for a Navy ISR and my dream school is Yale! Would you mind telling me what year your DS got accepted and what region they are from?

Congrats on the ISR! Would you mind sharing your stats, etc and what region you are from?

So long as the 1st round decision comes back before the ED results, I don't see why you couldn't withdraw your ED application if the 1st round scholarship decision is negative. It's actually very common for schools to "defer" ED applications to the RD cycle, which would be another option for you if the 1st round scholarship decision is negative. As for things that might come up later, DODMERB, etc., that strikes me as a material change in financial fortune, which is a legitimate reason to void an ED acceptance . . . assuming it can't be worked out otherwise with the school.

Congrats- first off, set up your interview with Yale Navy if you haven't already ASAP.
Do recommend you apply EA.
Class of 2026.
He didn't choose Navy or Yale... :)

Thanks so much! I am planning to apply EA to Yale. Would you happen to know how I should set up an interview with them and what the interview is for? Would it be about admittance to Yale's NROTC unit? And if so is this the correct link for the interview?

PS I already had 2 NROTC interviews first with a local college recruiter and then another one for ISR.

Hello, I plan on applying to Yale for ROTC as well (it is also my dream!). Did you end up getting in? Can I ask you more?
