I was wondering how much the Coast Guard weights first semester grades. Out of the seven classes I am taking: AP Government, AP English Language, AP Macroeconomics, Geosystems, Astronomy, Multivariable Calculus, and Energy Systems.

I have an A or A- in almost all classes besides Multivariable Calculus. I underestimated how hard the class was and will be stuck at around a C or C+/B- in the class. Would this be very detrimental? I have listed the major that I would like to study as management.

Hey there -- I assume you're a senior, and if so I'd say that if you've already heard good news, you don't have very much to worry about. Just keep your other grades up and try to keep the Calc above at a B- at lowest. Multivar is a ridiculously advanced class so I'm sure they'll weigh that into the equation. If this is the case, just don't get d's or many c's. I'm sure you won't.

However, if you are on some sort of wait list or pending then I'd say the c has a heavier toll on your overall profile. It will detrimentally separate you from those on the Waitlist who have perhaps scored better than you on their transcript. Again, multivar is an advanced class, but your decision isn't sealed yet so everything still really counts.

And in regards to your major declaration-- I've been told that doesn't matter "too" much, as every freshman takes the same courses -- I think they are just interested in what students want to major in.

I am applying RD so pending. Right now I am stuck at a C and it will be hard to bring it up with only two weeks left in the quarter so I guess its set in stone. I don't have any other D's or C's on my transcript. My GPA for the first semester of senior would be a 4.41 weighted out of 5 with the C but I'm not sure if that will make any difference. I guess I just have to try to end the semester strong.

Okay -- so don't let any of your grades fall. Also, since your first semester is still going, don't screw up on finals either. Ending the semester strong is the most effective thing you can do right now.

Keep in mind also that grades aren't everything (although they are huge). Keep up the leadership and extrac's during the entirety of your senior year. Up until the date you receive your letter, you can still update your profile with accolades etc.
