I am at USAFA for an event (Cyberworx) this week and realized it is the first time I have been back since graduation. It is definitely a strange experience. I keep seeing a road/sign/static display and having some seriously vivid flashbacks to basic/freshman year. So strange.

I graduated high school MANYYYY moons ago...I still have a couple vivid dreams (forget class schedule, forget locker combo). I suspect this will stick with you for a while. How long-ish has it been? What’s the biggest difference?

How fun (?) for you!

You want freaky ...the first time I want back to USNA for initial BGO training, I received my room assignment ...5029 (I think). I knew right away it was in my old Company area, but when I got to the 5-0 deck, I realized that it was my First Semester Plebe Year room.. Talk about flashbacks ! On top of that, my roomates were both Classmates, including one from NAPS with me and the other actually in my Company.

I often wondered if it was just a coincidence , or whether someone was messing with me. The Director of Candidate Guidance at the time was a Classmate, but she said she had nothing to do with it. As a practical matter, I really don't think there is any formal record of what room Midshipman are assigned to at any time , unless someone actually retrieved conduct records and found it on a Form -2 .

I am a 12 grad so it’s been a little over 7 years, and for the most part my time at USAFA was pretty great, so it’s fun being back. The biggest difference is the new character/leadership center (can’t remember the actual name) that they were just breaking ground on when I graduated. That and there is a whole restaurant/shopping area right outside north gate. That sure would have been nice...

Whoooooaaaaa......that is FREAKY!!!

I would take it as a sign that you were meant to do what you are doing. Counsel others.

How were the dreams that night haha [emoji38]?

To be honest, I was more concerned about falling out of the rack than having Plebe year flashbacks. Those bunk beds built over the desks are fine for 18-22 year olds, but really not a good idea for older guys that may want to get up in the middle of the night !

If i went back to my old Plebe Year room, I'd have to wonder if my old pet Cockroach, "Jimmy," was still living there.
After I moved on to Youngster year they gutted my Plebe wing and installed new guts to the room.
I was not permitted to keep Jimmy because they wanted to present a better image.

Jimmy's favorite times were when my late Mom sent us home baked cookies and brownies.
