First Wave of Non LOA Appointments

From a reliable source: My DS and I attended an all academy briefing on Friday night. We met the USMA Director of Admissions, Colonel McDonald, face to face. She indicated that she has reviewed the prep scholar applications and expects the next appointments to be released at the end of January (meaning 30th-31st). She also said Class of 2024 will be capped at 1240. ⏳
Fingers crossed!

would this include people with 3q + principle nom or is it only prep school candidates?

My DS is still waiting for Dodmerb to be posted (exams completed early Dec) as well as his 7th semester grades. Will they consider his app for first round?

Candidates are not considered for admission until they are academically, physically, and medically qualified.

Is there likely to be another big wave after this one or will they just slowly trickle out?

I had to laugh yesterday as I emptied the mailbox, and saw a somewhat large envelope in there. For a split second I was thinking BFE, then I realized it was a college packet for my other son. Guess these can be somewhat anxious moments for mom and dad as well.

That's so funny! Happened to me yesterday as well. Went to mailbox and saw large priority mail package...heart skipped a beat....NOT the BFE.

Sorry, What is a prep scholar?
Prep scholars can come from many different categories, USMAPS-is primarily soldier applicants or recruited athletes who need to improve their application (fully qualified candidates do not go to USMAPS), AOG Prep-is prior applicants who were 3Q not selected but so close that the academy offered them a partial scholarship to attend 1 of 8 prep schools and reapply (if offered admission in next class they sign a contract committing them to attend or repay the funds), Civil Prep is self-funded prep school and many offer Senior Academy Prep track.

Some MOC have not and will not send their nominations into West Point until the 31st. Do all MOC from a state have to send in their nominations before anybody in the state can be given an offer?

So, for an example, let's say that only one Senator from a state has sent in their nominations to West Point. Will the people that he/she nominated (and are fully qualified) be considered for an appointment for the first wave? Or will they have to wait for the rest of the MOC in their state to send in their nominations?

Not dependent on other MOCs. Unknown how they go about a competitive slate if nominees’ files are still under review, especially since files can be updated through 1/31.

I know waiting is impossibly hard, BUT it does not matter if you get selected in the first wave or the very last wave - either way you are a cadet just the same as the cadet next to you. Please don't worry about first wave so much. First wave is only approximately 1/3 of all of the offers that will go out.

First wave will be made up of a mix that NO ONE can definitively tell you. It can be principal nominees who have their file completed, clear slate winners where it will not matter what else the other candidates submit in the next week (think less competitive districts where they don't even usually fill the slate), LOA recipients that didn't have their file complete super early, etc. etc. etc.

You could get passed up in the first wave because someone else on your slate gets a higher WCS than you but get in on a later wave because they declined the appointment or West Point found another way to get you in. Being in the first wave does not make you more qualified to succeed than any other cadet. If anything it gives you more time to worry about the packing lists and getting the right color underwear, correct shoes, etc. And that is not a blessing either.

My advice - watch for the first wave to come out. The first few days of them will be people who were called by their MOC (not everyone will get this call), the weekend wave will either be people who live close to New York and got their BFE in the mail or ones who obsessively check their portal and found out when it changed, the next week ones can either be got their BFE early the next week or are part of the next week congressman calls.

The important thing about the first wave as that you know they have started. They will send out acceptance letters every week after the first week and you will have no clue which way you will find out or when you will find out. Try your best to be patient until the BFE to TWE show up and know that either way you are highly qualified to even make this far and life is not over. I have heard that nearly 1/3 of most incoming classes are not direct appointments. If this is what you really want and you don't get in - there is always next year.
