Fishing at CGA

Seems like the USCGA is in a really good spot for fishing. Do cadets fish from the docks or boats close to the academy? If so for what kind of fish?

Most cadets go to Jacob's Rock (Sailing center) to go fish. I have a lot of friends who go fishing here on campus at CGA. Especially nice nights during the summer/early fall. Most go fishing for stripers. There are some other minor fish located in the Thames River but I know stripers are what are most sought after.

Some cadets sure do fish there, from the docks or Jacob’s Rock. May even venture to Mamacoke upstream. My DS says there are a variety of fish, a good number of Striped Bass.

Where do they store their fishing rods? Are they allowed to have them in their rooms?

My son uses a collapsible rod with a case, he said he stores it discreetly in his room, or it can go in their storage trunk in cadet storage. I do not recommend having one until after Swab Summer.
