fitness-gear-ok'd-wear-to-military-commissaries-exchanges

I remember feeling weird the first couple times I walked into the PX or commissary after retiring while wearing sweats and a hoodie.

Retirees get away with lots of stuff though so I got over it pretty quick.

Two thoughts --
1) Is the Exchange going to start looking like Walmart ?
2) Does Army have to wear their PT belts ?
Several years ago I went to an indoor pool on post and a unit was doing drown proofing for PT. I kid you not, they were wearing PT belts over their combat uniforms in the pool. At the time I was toying with the idea of coming out of retirement as the Army was short instructor pilots. That helped my decision making process.

I hear you..there is a Army Reserve facility in my town, and I used to see people running on the local bike path in broad daylight with their PT belts. I've always assumed that there was some General Order out there that said "thou shalt wear a PT belt..." and left no room for the exercise of common sense.

The concept itself isn't bad -- I was deployed to Iceland during the winter long ago, and we all had reflective tape sewn into our parkas and flight jackets -- However, it was good idea , poorly executed. I understand that whatever Army instruction that addresses use of PT belts has been tempered with common sense in recent years.

We don’t generally wear them anymore unless it’s TRADOC (because TRADOC) or you’re doing activity before sunrise outdoors
