So I am on the path to USMA, I'm a sophomore in high school but I already kinda know what I wanna do. I plan on going to USMA, doing my active duty for 5 years and then coming back and going into the FLEP program. I was told by a retired USMA cadet and teacher that that is the only way to enter JAG through USMA. I also learned that that is an extra 10+ years added to my military service. I'm not saying that that is a bad thing, but I have other plans such as being a congresswoman and a Justice on SCOTUS. What would you guys recommend? That I just become a civilian Lawyer after my service is up or should I compete for FLEP?

These are all lofty goals, including attending the academy itself. A general rule is that the army adds two additional years of service for each year of post-undergraduate school they pay for you to attend. A good thing is that your time in school can also count towards your service requirement.

When I was 17 I was wondering about what we were going to do in Friday night....

search up the topic for previous threads. There is a really good discussion on this topic. General consensus was it was better to do civi but that was just my read, yours may be different.
