I know one pull up is better than the max on FAH. But I would just like to know if there has been anyone who has gotten an appointment with a FAH.

I’m sure they have. USNA seemed not to care about pull ups, at least in my cycle.

1 pull up is better but I can say from firsthand knowledge that I know of someone who received an appointment with a FAH.

I understand that the CFA results pretty much show SA admissions that the candidate is capable of endure the physical training that the SA requires. They are not expecting a fully trained individual but one that can be physically train to their (high) standard

It seems logical that with the FAH, you’ll need very good results in the other events to compensate (and probably especially push-ups, to demonstrate that you have passable upper-body strength). Even if you win offer of appointment with FAH, keep striving to churn out at least three pull-ups by PS. Upper-body strength is expected at SAs, and you don’t want to be “that girl” when it comes time for the E Course and O Course and Sea Trials and 2x/year fitness tests.

DD worked hard to get three pull-ups in her CFA, then kept working at it at USNA. By the time she got to Leatherneck during firstie summer, she could get at least 11. If she can do it, you can too!

You will NEVER regret pushing yourself to grow your upper body strength. It comes in handy all kinds of ways, gives you confidence and contributes to a life-long habit of working the weight-bearing bones - which maintains bone health as you get older and staves off easy breakage.

Get yourself a pull-up bar for a doorway and try every time you walk by, research the Stew Smith CFA elements on his website and look for his YouTube videos. Work on your grip strength too, which helps in many ways. Why not maximize yoir chances instead of hoping a FAH will be enough? What do you think your competition is doing? Yes, it may or may not have a detectible impact on your application, because we don’t see the whole of it. Challenge yourself. You will feel great if you can achieve this, and know you have the grit and determination to push through some aches and pains and mental reluctance.

DD cleared her CFA with FAH. But keep on going and aiming for a/more pull ups even after you are offered an appointment. As others have said, upper body strength is important to participate in the PS at USNA.

DD earned an appointment with a FAH as well, but it was like 26 secs, and she was doing a pull up by start of PS. She went on to max the PRT right before Ack year started. Definitely possible, but doing a pull up will give you an edge versus simply "qualifying". The application process is full of things you can't control. Getting yourself to the point where you can do a pull up is squarely controlled by you.

DS did not do well at pullups on CFA but was able to cover it by doing better in several other events. This past weekend, as we walked along sea wall near RIP Miller Field, I asked him about the long line of pull-up bars and he said they hardly do pullups. However he did say that the O-Course has a obstacles where being able to to do a pullup is needed. Also pullups are still part of many of screeners like MARSOT.

Any high school student or USNA mid who has an inkling that they might want to go Marine Corps should get cracking on pull-ups. There’s MARSOT and Leatherneck and then TBS and active duty — all places where the ability to do pull-ups matters. A lot.

The Marines love their pull-ups.

Best exercise for pull ups is more pulls ups. Pyramid works great. If you can't do a pull up do negatives nice and slow. YOU can do it !

I actually couldn't do pullups a few months ago, but now I can do almost 4. It definitely takes practice and patience. I did a lot of negatives, over and over and over again. I suggest not using bands, just go for it. Watch videos on proper form, takes videos of yourself, you got this! PM me if you need any help!
